Blue Star Welcome Week Celebrating our Military Families
Principal Message
It was an honor to celebrate our Chesterbrook Military families during Blue Star Welcome week last week with a morning breakfast. We are so happy your journey has led you to Chesterbrook! Chesterbrook proudly received a nomination for renewal of our Purple Star Designation for our commitment and support of military connected families.
This week, 1st - 6th grade parents should keep an eye out for beginning of the year assessment reports in Thursday folders. Staff has spent the past couple of weeks analyzing Math MAP, iReady and VALLS data and working on next steps to support all students. Our first early release for staff development provided our teachers valuable time to dig into data and ways to enrich and support student math growth.
Another exciting month of wellness kicked off for October with our Street Squad Campaign. Thursday morning we celebrated the first day of Walk, Bike and Roll to school month awarding ours students with a Street Squad bracelet for the first day of participation. Students who earn 8 days of participation in October will earn a t-shirt! Thank you for supporting our students by being vigilant in supervising their path to school and using caution on our roadways at all times. Thank you to our FCPS Safe Routes to School team for their partnership and support. A special thank you to Mr. Levesque, Mrs. Maxwell and Mr. McLaughlin for making this campaign possible through their instruction of our biking unit.
As we closed out September, we released the last of our monarchs that hatched. Thank you to Mrs. Remer for the care she put into tending to our numerous caterpillars that become beautiful butterflies. It was an incredible experience and we were able to catch quite a few as they changed in their life cycle.
We have done a nice job keeping up with our lost and found but the collection is beginning to grow as it gets colder! Make sure those sweatshirts and water bottles come home daily or have your kids check our lost and found!
We will be sharing out information through our PTA very soon for sign up of our academic before and afterschool programs. One high interest club is Science Olympiad for 3rd through 5th grades. Because this program requires a good bit of parent support of our student competition groups, we will be sharing an interest form to gauge interest and the ability of parents to volunteer. Once we gather these details, we will be able to gauge the number of students/teams we are able to support for sign ups. You can find more information on the PTA supported before and afterschool programs on the PTA website.
Sincerely,
Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Donations support academic programs, teacher support, classroom materials, and community events beyond the school budget. A gift of $250 per family is suggested, and every amount helps.
Does your employer match? Employer matches have provided about 9% of the total raised so far. Enter your employer in the “Company Name for Corporate Matching Gift” box when you donate, and the PTA will follow up.
