We can’t wait to welcome you for Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 23. You’ll see documentation throughout our hallways and classrooms showcasing the learning taking place across our school.

We ended the week by dressing as our future selves, celebrating the many possibilities ahead. Have a wonderful long weekend, and enjoy the return of cooler fall temperatures.

Warmly,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Tara Boone, and Jess Duvel

Belvedere Elem Administration Team

🏫Back to School Night

Belvedere Elementary School will host Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. Families are invited to learn more about the 2026-2027 school year and connect with their child’s teacher.

We look forward to seeing you there!

🔦PYP Spotlight

At Belvedere, one way we support our students with developing the Learner Attribute, being Principled, is through teaching and modeling academic integrity. Over the next few weeks, be on the look out for Belvedere’s Academic Integrity Policy in your student’s Friday Folder. This policy explains how we practice academic integrity with our students. Please review this information with your student and remove the last page. Return that page, signed by you and your student, to school. We hope this provides an opportunity for you and your student to discuss being principled and why it matters to your family.

Please feel free to email our PYP Coordinator, Margot Hwang (mahwang@fcps.edu) if you have any questions about the program.

Future Friday!

Belvedere Elem Future Friday Instagram Post

The future is looking bright at Belvedere!

Today was Future Friday, and our Bulldogs came dressed for where their futures might take them!

As an AVID school, we are helping students build the skills, confidence, and belief in themselves to prepare for their futures in college, career, and life. Today, we got a little glimpse of those futures!

We spotted future doctors, nurses, teachers, artists, lawyers, chemists, military and police officers, soccer players, cheerleaders, and even a future Harvard student walking our halls.

Dream big, Bulldogs. Your future starts now!

Be sure to check out the full Instagram Reel!

Not Feeling Well? When Your Child Can Come to School

School is better when your child is here! But we do understand that some days, they may feel unwell. Learn more about which symptoms are ok at school (like sneezing or sniffles), and when your child should stay home (if they have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, for example).

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify the school so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and, if possible, let them know how long you think they will be out.

If you or your family need any kind of support, please reach out to our front office. We are here for you! Visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.

💉Immunization Events

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.

🎤Superintendent Community Conversations

Join us for a series of Community Conversations that will be held across the school division. Share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Click on the date to register for any of the following events:

Registration is not required, but it helps with planning.

Connect with Other Title I Families- Serve on TPAC

Belvedere needs a representative for Fairfax County Public Schools' Title I Parent Advisory Committee (TPAC). Committee representatives, Title I staff and principals meet up to seven times during the school year for 90 minutes -- in person at Title I schools as well as virtually -- to discuss topics around Title I funding and family engagement initiatives taking place in other schools.

Committee members also:

  • Develop leadership and advocacy skills by sharing strategies used to foster family engagement in schools.
  •  Provide input into the planning and implementation of Title I family engagement programming in Fairfax County.
  • Support the development and presentation of an annual school board report describing the focus of the committee during the school year, information and resources gained throughout the year and recommendations for the next school year.

This committee is very valuable to our school community! If you are interested in serving, please contact Tasha Floyd, Belvedere Administrative Assistant, at 703-9166800. The first TPAC meeting is Oct. 20.

Can’t Join Us for Volunteer Night? Here are Ways to Help

Bingo Night, Oct. 15

Volunteers needed for welcoming families, distributing prizes, helping student volunteers, selling refreshments set-up and clean-up.

Volunteers needed for donations, staffing the sales throughout the day, set-up and break-down.

Volunteers needed for serving cocoa and other refreshments, taking photos and cheering the runners on!Reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Laura Nunneker at lauradiserio@gmail.com for more information. Thank you in advance for any time and effort you can contribute.

Join the PTA!

Our goal is to top the membership involvement we saw last school year when 120 members of the BES community joined the PTA. We have 40+ members to go! Belvedere PTA membership is $10 per caregiver or $5 for Teachers/Administrators/Staff. Members have to renew each year to retain their voting rights.

Joining the PTA comes with no commitments or expectations.  We simply hope you will join us to further build the Belvedere community. Joining the PTA does not commit you to volunteer time. Your membership means that you support our efforts and our goals. In addition, your membership gives you voting privileges at our general meeting and teacher-members also qualify for the BES PTA mini-grant program, which is funding for projects and other classroom needs.

Annual membership is open now! If you have questions, please reach out to bespta.va@gmail.com and a Board member will be in touch.

Room Parents Are Needed!

BES is looking for room parents. Typical room parents responsibilities include:

  • Supporting communication with families
  • Coordinating volunteers
  • Assisting with teacher-requested needs

The role is generally about building classroom community and helping with logistics, not assisting with instruction or managing the classroom.  If you are interested in becoming a room parent, contact bespta.va@gmail.com.

Join the Fifth Grade Committee

Every year Belvedere's 5th grade caregivers form a committee to support BES events during the school year.  It also helps with general fundraising, the proceeds from which supports the entire grade's end-of-year party and class gift for the school.

If you can join the Fifth Grade Committee, or are interested but want to know more, please reach out to bespta.va@gmail.com and a PTA Board member will be in touch with next steps. If you can help with an event, want to party plan or organize the class gift, or just want to donate $25 and be done with it -- all support is welcome! The committee can work with your schedule.

Boundary Study Meeting

Families are invited to attend the Boundary Study Meeting on September 28.

Pyramid Level Meeting:

Additionally, FCPS will once again host localized boundary meetings for the communities included in this boundary study. These smaller meetings are for anyone unable to attend the September 28 pyramid meeting — each meeting will cover the same information:

Glasgow Middle School Meeting:

Learn more about the Greenway Downs, Jefferson Village, City Park Homes, and Kingsley Commons, Plus Glasgow Middle School Boundary Study webpage.

Child care and language interpretation will be available at all meetings as needed.

Come see photos of the many ways the PTA supports the BES community. We plan to share updates, stories and behind-the-scenes looks at what goes into building a volunteer organization like the Belvedere PTA. Follow us @belvedereES_PTA.
