FCPS This Week now available in other languages

If you would prefer one of those languages contact Kristy Kim, Crossfield’s school registrar, to update your “corresponding language” in SIS.
Blue Star Welcome Week
Help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 28th – October 4th, and throughout the year! Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate, and schools are a primary way they get integrated into their new location. Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices.
Rockets, let’s show our support for military families with a fun spirit week!
Monday – Shine and Sparkle Day
Tuesday – Team Shirt Day
Wednesday – Wear R.E.D. Day
Thursday – Superhero Day
Friday – Pajama Day
We’d like to know who our military-connected families are so we can share opportunities with you throughout the year. Please complete this optional Google form if you are a new Crossfield military-connected family. Reach out to our family liaison, Emily Simon, with questions via email at emsimon@fcps.edu.
Raptor Visitor Management System
All FCPS schools are now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This system is part of FCPS’ ongoing commitment to layered school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our schools. The VMS ensures that no school visitor is on the offender registry.
Please have your ID ready when you check in at the front office as a volunteer or to have lunch with your child. Visitors who download the RaptorSafe AppRaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use at the school to accelerate the check-in process.
Superintendent Community Conversations
Join us for a series of Community Conversations that will be held across the school division. Share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Click on the date to register for any of the following events:

Reporting Discrimination or Harassment
FCPS is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for people of all races, national origins, and ethnicities. Individuals experiencing harassment or discrimination should report the incident as soon as possible.
Science Olympiad Coaches Needed
Crossfield is exploring the creation of a Science Olympiad team. We need Parent Volunteers to coach this team!
If you are interested in exploring this opportunity to create our Science Olympiad team, please contact Mr. Granieri at mtgranieri@fcps.edu.
Oakton Pyramid Joins Region 5
With the opening of Skyview High School, FCPS is implementing several changes to school pyramid and region assignments, effective September 14th.
Crossfield ES and our neighboring Oakton pyramid schools will move from Region 1 to Region 5. Crossfield students who were previously assigned to Carson MS will attend Franklin MS starting in the 2027-28 school year. (Carson MS has joined the new Skyview pyramid.)
Please keep in mind that these changes are administrative only. They do not impact school boundaries, instruction, or supports available to students and families. We are sharing this information in case you require support at the region level in the future.
Visit the FCPS website to learn more about Region 5.
Bookworm Central Book Fair | Friday, 9/25 - 10/2
Calling all book lovers! Volunteers needed to help run the book fair. Please consider signing up to volunteer HERE.
The fall Book Fair will once again kick-off with a family shopping night and Popsicles on the Playground, Friday, September 25 from 6-8pm.
We are partnering with a new vendor this year, Bookworm Central. Please explore our Bookworm Central website for a preview and information about e-wallets. With this new partnership comes: books from a wide range of publishers, additional languages for our multilingual families, award winning titles, puzzles and games, and of course, the tchotchkes.
The book fair is a perfect time for families to celebrate the joy of reading and to help teachers add to their classroom library with new titles or to replace a well loved book by donating to their individual e-gift cards.
Students will also have a chance to shop the Book Fair during school hours the following week (September 28 - October 2).
Children's Book Donation Drive
Have books your family has outgrown? Make room on your shelves by bringing your gently used children’s books to Popsicles on the Playground at Crossfield on Friday September 25 from 6-8pm!
Collected books will be donated to Crossfield teachers and local charities (Books are Food for Your Brain + Fairfax Free Book Bus) that help improve literacy and inspire a lifelong love of reading.
Can’t come Friday? Donations can also be dropped off at Crossfield from 9-9:15am Monday, September 28 and Tuesday, September 29.
Organized by Crossfield’s 5th grade Girl Scout Troop 56081. Questions? Email Katie Campanelli at cookies56081@gmail.com..
Love Capturing School Memories?
The yearbook team is looking for a new Yearbook Adviser to lead this important tradition starting next school year. Our outgoing adviser would love to mentor a successor throughout this school year to make the transition easy and successful.
We're also seeking parents and volunteers to join the Yearbook Committee. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to help celebrate and preserve the memories that make our school community so special.
Interested? Email kellyafuerst@gmail.com for more information.
