Principal's Message

Happy Friday West Potomac Community!
As we wrap up another fantastic week, we want to share a couple of quick, important reminders for the days ahead:
-
Kiss and Ride: This is a reminder that we all need to follow the proper Kiss and Ride Routes. Please do not drop your student off in the senior lot near Door 5. This is not safe! Follow the proper Kiss and Ride signs.
-
Virginia Cell Phone Policy: Pursuant to the statewide Virginia Executive Order, students are expected to keep cell phones, smartwatches, and personal electronic devices off and stored away during the instructional day. Thank you for your support in keeping our classrooms focused and free of distractions.
-
Upcoming Holiday: A reminder that school and offices will be closed this coming Monday, September 21, in observance of Yom Kippur. Enjoy the extended three-day weekend!
-
WP Band news: The West Potomac Band and director Mr. Joe Antonucci have been recognized as a Virginia honor band! This is a prestigious honor reserved for music programs that demonstrate consistent excellence by earning superior ratings in state marching band and district performance assessments. This honor reflects daily dedication and commitment from our musicians and is made possible with the collaboration of their families and supporters. Catch the marching Wolverines in action this weekend at the Freedom Showcase competition.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Back-to-School Night! We truly appreciate you taking the time to visit our school, meet your child’s teachers, and learn more about the exciting year ahead. We would also like to extend a special thank-you to our Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Ray Lonnett, for attending and supporting our school community.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Jessica Statz, Principal
SAT School Day and PSAT/NMSQT Testing Day
SAT School Day and PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) exams will be held at each high school on Wednesday, October 7, at no cost to families. The digital SAT School Day exam is offered to 12th grade students, and the digital PSAT/NMSQT exam is provided to 10th and 11th grade students.
Unscheduled Day for 9th Grade Students Because of the testing, most 9th grade students will not have school on October 7. Students are encouraged to complete any missing work or assignments that need to be completed prior to the end of the first quarter.
Ninth grade students with disabilities who receive low incidence special education services will still receive in-person instruction with a two-hour early release on October 7.
