Ready, set, RALLY! 📣🔥 The energy in the gym today was off the charts as we hyped everyone up for the Roadrunner Games on October 24th! With balloon games, mascot hugs, and non-stop cheering, our students are officially ready to bring their A-game. Who's excited?! 🙌👟

Spotting science in action! 🐞🔍 Our 3rd graders put their observation skills to work examining ladybugs up close. From sketching details in their journals to using magnifying glasses to track larvae growth, these young scientists are bugging out over hands-on learning! 🌿✨

Roadrunner Roundup Dear Little Run Families, What another great week of learning we’ve had here at school! As you can see in the photos above, our 3rd graders were thrilled to receive their ladybugs this week as part of their hands-on science unit. We are so excited to observe and watch them grow over the next few weeks! We are also proud to announce that we are introducing school-wide composting to all of our students this year. Our 5th and 6th graders led the way this week by practicing their new composting routines in the cafeteria, and our 3rd and 4th graders will get their turn to learn the ropes next week. Today, our school came together for our PTA Roadrunner Games pep rally to get our students ready and excited for the upcoming event on October 24th! Check out the details below to learn more, get involved and please be sure to register by October 2nd to secure an event t-shirt. Quick reminder that the PTA After School Enrichment Programs still have spaces available in all classes! Digital Tuesday Folders

We are transitioning our Tuesday Folders to a digital format this year. Starting now, paper copies will no longer be sent home in backpacks. Instead, all weekly flyers, announcements, and school updates will be posted directly to our Parent Schoology Page, and listed weekly in this communication.

Dismissal Changes

To ensure the safety of all students and keep our front office running smoothly, please submit any changes to your child’s regular dismissal routine using the Change in Dismissal/Early Release form on our website.

Please submit all updates by 12:00 pm on the day of the change. This allows our front office staff enough time to process the request and notify your child's teacher before the end-of-day rush. Please do not send time-sensitive dismissal changes directly to teachers via email or TalkingPoints, as they are actively teaching and may not see these messages in time.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep dismissal safe and organized!

ACTION REQUIRED: Early Release Wednesdays

Little Run will release students at 12:15 PM on the following days:

• September 30
• November 18
• January 13
• April 7

Please note: While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:15 on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by school-based staff. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision. 

ACTION REQUIRED: Elementary school parents and caregivers should use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to review and provide consent for Early Release Wednesday Childcare. Make sure to scroll to the very bottom for Online Verification Update.

• OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
• OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.

Importance of Strong Attendance Habits

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:

Setting a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)

• Laying out clothes and packing backpacks the night before.
• Talking to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning, if they seem anxious about going to school.
• Developing back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
• Avoiding medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Join us for a morning of coffee, conversation, and community! Drop in to catch up with fellow school families, say hello to our leadership team—Principal Ms. Yarn and Assistant Principal Mrs. Butler—and share your ideas, questions, or just enjoy a warm drink.

Whether you stay for five minutes or the whole time, we would love to see you there!

Back to School Night - October 1

We can't wait to see you at Back to School Night on Thursday, October 1st. This evening is a great opportunity to get to know our school's staff and learn more about your child's academic year.

This is an adult-only event, so we kindly ask that children remain at home with a trusted, supervised caregiver.

We will have two separate sessions with teachers, so you'll have a chance to visit two classrooms if you have multiple children at Little Run.

Event Schedule:

• 5:45-6:05 PM: Specialists Meet & Greet (Cafeteria)
• 6:10-6:45 PM: Session 1
• 6:50-7:20 PM: Session 2

Yearbook Cover Contest - Deadline October 2

Calling all artistic Roadrunners, if you want your work featured in the 2026-2027 yearbook, please submit your designs by October 2^nd!

The theme this year is “Building Memories!”

Twice Exceptional Students

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners are students who are gifted and have learning challenges or disabilities. 

Families can learn more about 2e learners, how to support them, and how to partner with schools on the 2e webpage, which also includes a link to the Special Education Handbook.

Superintendent Community Conversations

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid

Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life. 

A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Events are planned for the following dates at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted):
