Students in 4th through 6th grade have spent the past two weeks learning safe bike riding skills thanks to our PE teachers and the Safe Routes to Schools team. Thankful for the resources to support our students learning life-long skills! Watch for more details on our upcoming Walk and Roll to School Campaign in October.

Thank you for joining us for Back to School Night last evening. It was wonderful to reconnect with so many parents as we partner to support your children this school year.
Spread the Word! Chesterbrook is 100 Years Old
We are using this 100th year to celebrate our strong history of public education in the McLean community. Save the date for our community evening of celebration on Thursday, October 22nd. We are gathering memories and calling out to our Chesterbrook families - students and parents from past years for support to build our records of past years.
Share a memory of your Chesterbrook ES experience!
In 2006, Chesterbrook held an 85th anniversary and collected many memories from former chipmunks. We would love to continue this tradition and are looking for a parent that would like to help us compile a scrapbook of updated memories and historical memorabilia that is shared. The goal is to continue building on the collection that was so well preserved.
If you are able to help us compile information and volunteer your time to put together a scrapbook for us, please contact me at SKirkpatrick@fcps.edu.

Safety on our roads - I would be remiss if I did not address the safety of our students in walking and riding to and from school in the wake of a tragedy of an FCPS middle school student this week. My heart breaks for the family, friends and school community as they lift up the young life lost this week. As our students gain independence and navigate the freedom of walking and riding to school, I know you will join me in helping our students grow in their environmental awareness and safe riding techniques. Mr. Levesque, Mrs. Maxwell and Mr. McLaughlin are running our bike unit this week to support our upper grade students in bike riding skills and safety awareness. We are also going to start up a new program for Bike and Roll to school in October and will share more details soon. As we ensure the safety of our students, it is also critical that we are drivers are aware of our students on the roads, in crosswalks and holding each other accountable to setting up a supportive community of safety. I appreciate all you do to partner with us in the safety and well being if our children to safely navigate this stage in their development across our McLean community.

Students will be release at 12:35 for Teacher Planning and Professional Development on Wednesday, September 30th.
ALL parents need to indicate by Friday, 9/18 their base plan for early releases which will be confirmed the following week. There will be an opportunity to change as we get closer to the date but we need a plan for ALL students ASAP so we can begin planning.

Room Parent Information Session
If you are looking for a way to get in involved with your child’s classroom and support their teacher, consider becoming a room parent. Room parents work collaboratively across the grade to plan and assist with signature class enrichment days, celebrations, and field trips, as well as provide support to teachers when they need extra hands or items for the classroom.

Celebrate McLean is Tonight
Please save the date for September 10th for Celebrate McLean!
It will run from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at the McLean HS practice football field, prior to our football home opener vs Falls Church. We will have games, food, DJ and tables from our clubs and sports. We look forward to another amazing day!
