Our third week of school is underway, and students are settling into their routines and procedures beautifully. It is wonderful to see our building filled with learning and joy each day.
Next week will be a busy and exciting one, with our first PTA meeting on Tuesday and Back-to-School Night on Thursday. We look forward to connecting with many of you during these special events.
Thank you for giving us this first month of school to establish routines and procedures and allow students to settle into the cafeteria. This time has helped create a comfortable and successful lunchtime experience for everyone. Once the first month has passed, we are happy to welcome family members to join a student for lunch. We encourage visitors to purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring a lunch from home rather than bringing outside fast food into the cafeteria. Your presence, more than anything, is what makes the occasion special for your child!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Condra and Amber Burnett

ATTENDANCE REPORTING PROCEDURES
Running late or not feeling so great? ⏰
Whether it's a doctor’s appointment, a morning delay, or a rest day, keeping us in the loop takes just a quick minute! Choose whichever path works best for your morning routine:
1️⃣ Tap through ParentVUE 2️⃣ Send a quick message to viennaelem.attendance@fcps.edu 3️⃣ Give our attendance line a ring at 703-937-6066
Properly reporting absences and late arrivals helps us greet our tardy Vikings with a smile and keeps our school community safe and organized. Thank you for working together with us!
Importance of Strong Attendance Habits September is Attendance Awareness Month. Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:
- Setting a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
- Laying out clothes and packing backpacks the night before.
- Talking to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning, if they seem anxious about going to school.
- Developing back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
- Avoiding medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.
If you or your family need any kind of support, please reach out to our front office. We are here for you! Visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.

FAMILY NEEDS QUESTIONNAIRE
We want to hear from all families! 💙 Please take a few minutes to complete our Family Needs Questionnaire. This brief, four-question form will help us better understand how to support our community with school resources, FCPS platform navigation, food, clothing, seasonal needs, and other resources families may need both in and outside of school.
Participation is optional and confidential. This questionnaire is not a request for immediate assistance - it’s simply a way for us to listen, plan, and connect families with helpful resources. Thank you for sharing your voice!
CONNECTING OUR COMMUNITY

Interest Survey for the VES SUN Parents Group
VES is exploring interest in creating a SUN (Students with Unique Needs) Parents Group for families of students with unique needs, including students who have an IEP. The group would help parents and caregivers connect, share resources and lived experiences, troubleshoot challenges together, and learn from guest speakers and school staff.
Please complete this brief survey to share your interest and preferences. Completing the survey does not commit you to participating.
SEL SCREENER
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students. In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school. Vienna Elementary School students in grades 3-6 will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information about the SEL Screener, including information on opting out, please see the linked Parent Notification. You can also learn more on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
