A Message from the Principal

patriot

Dear Belle View Families,

On this 25th anniversary of September 11th, we hold space in our hearts to honor and remember the courage, strength, and unity demonstrated on that day, and we remain deeply committed to nurturing and protecting the vibrant community within our own school walls.

Below are several important updates and upcoming events for our school community:

Back-to-School Night (Monday, September 14th): We invite you to join us for our Back-to-School Night. The schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:30 PM: Administration & PTA Welcome Message

6:40 PM – 7:10 PM: Session 1

7:15 PM – 7:45 PM: Session 2 (Note: Sessions 1 and 2 are identical repeats to accommodate families with multiple children.)

Specialists Location: Our specialist teachers will be available in the library throughout the evening—please feel free to drop by and say hello!

Required Safety Practice: Lockdown Drill. Next week, our 1st through 6th-grade students will participate in our required safety lockdown drill. State guidelines mandate two drills per school year, with the first taking place within the initial 20 days of school.

Exemptions: Preschool and Kindergarten students are exempt from this initial practice.

Staff will reassure all participating students before the activity that this is strictly a routine safety drill, similar to our fire drills, designed to keep everyone safe.

We are excited to host two guest authors in the coming weeks! Details regarding author backgrounds and instructions for purchasing personalized, signed books can be found below.

I look forward to seeing you around the View! 🐾

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid

Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.

A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Events are planned for the following dates at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted):

Registration links will be shared soon. Childcare and interpretation services will be provided. Events are one-hour long and open to all. Find out about other opportunities to connect with Dr. Reid.

Student ID Badges for Bus Riders

All students have received badges if they were registered at BVES by 7/2/26.

Others will receive theirs once printing capabilities are available.

ID cards should be worn or attached to your child’s backpack and brought to the bus each day. Teachers will hold them during the day on a hook by the classroom door and then return them to students for their bus trip home.

Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.

The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 1: Strong Start, Pre-K-12

The FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

The first goal of the strategic plan focuses on every student having a strong start in FCPS. Whether they’re joining us in preschool or in high school, we want our students to be set up for success

See how Goal 1 is being put into practice. Learn more about or enroll in FCPS Pre-K or Early Head Start.

Advanced Academic Programs

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.

Identification for Subject-Specific (K-6) and Part-Time (3-6) AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:

  • Fall identification: Students in grades 3-7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15, 2026.
  • Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.

FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services.

  • All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Tests (NGAT).
  • Students in Grades 3-6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
  • Students in Grades 3-6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Kristen Lehner, School Testing Coordinator, at kmlehner@fcps.edu by September 30.

Families are invited to attend an AAP information meeting, led by Abby Betz, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART).  This meeting will be on Thursday, October 1st at 6:00 pm in the Library.  This meeting will cover the AAP Continuum of Services and Full-Time AAP Identification.  Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS student and the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.

For more information, please contact Abby Betz, AART, at mabetz@fcps.edu or visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs website.

Student Rights and Responsibilities

Review and Sign the SR&R by September 30

The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. This year’s SR&R includes new Universal Grade Matrices, which are at-a-glance charts that make it easier for families to see behavior expectations and school responses for grades K-3, 4-8, and 9-12.

Families, please review the SR&R and discuss these expectations with your child. Be sure to sign the SR&R acknowledgement form by Wednesday, September 30, either by logging into SIS ParentVUE or signing and returning the Signature Sheet to your child’s school.

Learn more by watching a short video about the SR&R (available in English and Spanish) or visiting the SR&R webpage.

Cellphones and Personal Devices

Students may only use a personal device if it is required as part of a necessary accommodation in the students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan. A principal or the principal’s designee may approve a limited, course-specific exception for students enrolled in a specialized class when the curriculum requires a technology tool or software that isn’t available on a standard FCPS-issued device. Learn more about the student device requirement.
