Dear Olde Creek Families,
Our Bears have continued to learn, grow, and build community during another wonderful week of school!
As part of our learning, students in grades 3–6 participated in a Virtual 9/11 Commemoration: A Day of Service and Remembrance, along with an interactive lesson from the National Museum of the Marine Corps. This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. As we reflect and remember, we honor those whose lives were changed forever. We will never forget.
Our students are also showing what it means to come together as a community through the PTA’s Laps for Learning fundraiser. Our Bears are doing a fantastic job raising money, and Tuesday is the last day to register in order to receive a free T-shirt! (REGISTER HERE)
Students have already reached their first goal of $3,500, so they will enjoy a Bubble Greeting on Monday. Our next goal was just met at $7,000, which will earn students a Creative Hair Day on Friday, September 18. Additional goals include $10,000 for extra recess, $13,000 for a short video during lunch, $16,500 for Pajama Day and a movie, and $20,000 for a student-voted dress-up or spirit theme day.

Limited Early Release Wednesdays for Elementary Schools
Early release Wednesdays will start in September 2026. Each elementary school will have four of these early release days throughout the school year, and lunch will be provided. Learn more and view dates for early release Wednesdays
Olde Creek will have four, 3-hour early release days (release time is 12:15) on the following dates:
- September 30th
- November 18th
- January 13th
- April 7th
Parents and caregivers may use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to confirm whether or not child care on the four early release Wednesdays will be needed. If your plans change during the school year, please notify the front office.
If you are unable to access the OVU via ParentVue please take a moment to complete THIS GOOGLE FORM, managed by Olde Creek, so we can learn about dismissal plans for September 30th.
Advanced Academics Information
The Olde Creek AAP Parent Information Night will be held on Thursday, October 1 from 5:30 - 6:30 PM in the Olde Creek Library. Parents interested in learning about the FCPS continuum of Advanced Academic services and the full-time AAP Referral Process should plan to attend.
All full-time AAP referrals for students in grades 3-6 who have enrolled in FCPS since January 2026 are due by Thursday, October 15. For more information, please contact Sharon Smith, AART, at sasmith3@fcps.edu or visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs website.
Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available in Parent Digital Consent. Paper opt-out forms are available from your child’s school. Students receiving special education services and accessing modified curriculum will receive a printed opt-out form for modified FLE lessons.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6).. FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

The Importance of the Flu Vaccine
As we look ahead to the upcoming school year, the health and well-being of our students continues to be one of our priorities. Staying up to date with your child's flu vaccination helps:
- Reduce School Absences: Keeping students healthy means more time spent learning and engaging with peers.
- Protect the Community: Vaccination helps shield vulnerable family members and neighbors from seasonal illness.
- Support Overall Wellness: Routine flu shots are a key component of a proactive student health plan.
Upcoming Flu Shot Events
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will be taking place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary.
Superintendent Community Conversations
Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.
A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Events are planned for the following dates at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted):

- Monday, September 28, at Riverside Elementary School
- Monday, October 19, at Spring Hill Elementary School

Save the Date for the Annual Special Education Family Conference
The Annual Special Education Family Conference will take place on Saturday, November 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Hayfield Secondary School.
Hosted by FCPS and community partners, its theme — Connected Communities, Thriving Students — highlights the power of partnerships that support student success. This no-cost, in-person event brings together families, staff, and community partners to explore special education services, supports, and resources and to build meaningful connections.
The conference will feature an inspiring opening session, engaging breakout sessions, an exhibitor hall, and lunch for all participants. Visit the Special Education Family Conference webpage for the latest information.
