Happy Labor Day weekend, Wildcats! I hope everyone is enjoying the extra time away from school and finding an opportunity to relax and recharge. As we settle into the rhythm of the new school year, I continue to be energized by the positive start we have had and all that lies ahead for our students and community.
Thank you to all of the families who joined us for Back-to-School Night last week. It was wonderful to see so many of you in our hallways, meeting teachers and learning more about your students’ experiences at Centreville. I had the opportunity to speak with many families who shared their excitement about the energy surrounding the start of this school year. That enthusiasm is contagious, and I look forward to continuing to build upon it as we work together to support our students and strengthen the Wildcat Nation.
I am also excited to share a new partnership with the Asha-Jyothi (AJ) Foundation, a volunteer-based nonprofit founded right here in our community that works to expand access to education and healthcare for those in need. Centreville Class of 2017 graduate Vinny Thota and his family have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support local schools, and we are thrilled to now begin a partnership with AJ. It kicks off with their 18th Annual 5K Run/Walk on September 20, and every registration connected to Centreville High School will be donated directly back to our school, with additional contributions from AJ based on our overall participation. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together, have some fun, and directly support our students. I hope you will consider signing up, representing the Wildcat Nation, and helping us make a strong showing! Registration details are included below.
Finally, one of the greatest strengths of Centreville is the partnership between our students, staff, families, and community. I hope you will consider getting involved by joining us for our first PTSA meeting of the school year on Thursday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and our PTSA meetings are a great opportunity to stay connected, share your voice, and learn more about what is happening across our school. If you are not yet a PTSA member, information on how to join is included below.

August 31 - September 3 - Fall Music Auditions: The Centreville Theatre Department and Theatre Centreville Presents are excited to announce auditions for the Fall Musical, Mean Girls. All students grades 9-12 are eligible to audition. Auditions will take place the second week of school Auditions dates and times: August 31-September 3 from 3-6 pm.

- Day 4- Final Callbacks
Tech Week and Performances will be November 5-15 with performances taking place on Nov. 12-15. Students should not have any conflicts during tech week and performances. September 2 - Back to School Night: We’re excited to invite you to Centreville’s Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 2 starting at 7:00PM. There will be a specialized program for our Senior Parents from 6:00-6:45PM to address the unique needs of the Class of 2027. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, learn about classroom expectations, and see how we can work together for a successful school year.
September 8 - CVHS Theater Tech Crew Information Session: The CVHS Theatre Department will be holding interviews after school on September 8 from 3-5 pm for anyone interested in working on all the backstage elements of the Fall Musical, Mean Girls. Sign up with Mr. McGee in Room 247 and ask any questions. The performances will take place November 12-15 with set/building and constructions happening on Fridays and Saturdays in September and October.
September 9 & 10 - School Picture Days: School Picture Day for all 9th–11th grade students and staff will take place on Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th. As a general rule, 9th and 10th graders will take their photos during their PE classes, while 11th graders will take theirs during English class. Please stay tuned for full schedule details and purchasing information in the coming weeks.
September 12 - Food For Neighbors Red Bag Event: Centreville High School is proud to partner with Food For Neighbors (FFN) to help feed our local students who deal with food insecurity because even in a county as wealthy as Fairfax, one in four kids in our area are struggling with hunger. Food For Neighbors is a local organization addressing this problem by collecting food from our community via their Red Bag Program and donating directly to our local schools. The food is then distributed to the students every week through our food pantry. Five times a year, donors fill our Red Bags with food and toiletries and leave them on their doorsteps for collection. Volunteers pick up the bags, sort the donations, and deliver them to partnering schools, where staff connect the vital resources with students in need. September 17 - Best Buddies Spirit Day: The Best Buddies Club is encouraging all students to wear Centreville gear, colors, and swag on September 17! The goal is to show that we are all included in this one community of Centreville High School. So rock your Centreville gear to show your support, school spirit, and pride in being a Wildcat!
September 17 - PTSA Meeting: Please join us for the monthly PTSA meeting on Thursday, September 17 at 6:00PM in the Centreville High School Library. School Board members Sandy Anderson and Seema Dixit will join our meeting. We invite you to join the Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) to help foster a positive and inclusive school climate. Your involvement in PTSA is an opportunity to strengthen relationships and make a lasting impact on our school community. September 19 - Music Tag Day: Tag Day is the music department’s biggest fundraiser each year. Groups of students with a parent chaperone go door to door, asking for monetary donations in support of the Band, Choir and Orchestra programs. The funds raised provide sectional instruction, the purchase of equipment and music and more. Thank you in advance for supporting our performing arts programs!
September 20 - Asha-Jyothi 5K Run Centreville High School Fundraiser: We are excited to invite the Centreville community to participate in the 18th Annual Asha-Jyothi Foundation 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Fairfax. This healthy and fun event brings together students, families, teachers, and community members while also providing an opportunity to generate meaningful funding for our school. When registering, participants should select Centreville High School as their school. Asha-Jyothi will return 100% of registration proceeds associated with our school, along with an additional participation incentive:
- 25+ registrations: $500
- 50+ registrations: $1,000
- 100+ registrations: $2,000
- 250+ registrations: $10,000
This funding can support student programs, classroom resources, technology, STEM activities, and other needs that directly benefit our students. Participants can also use the code AJ4SCHOOLS to receive $10 off the 5K registration. The discount applies to the 5K only; however, Centreville will still receive 100% of the registration amount when participants select our school for the Fun Run. Please consider registering and encouraging your colleagues, students, and families to join the Wildcat team!
September 22 - Common App Boot Camp: Seniors! If you would like to get assistance with your college applications, please attend the Common App Boot Camp on Tuesday, September 22 during ROAR (9:45-10:30am) in the library. Counselors will be on hand with Mrs. Stamper to answer your questions! September 28 - October 1 - 9th Grade Wellness Screener: On September 28 - October 1 groups of 9th grade students will watch age-appropriate video clips and participate in a guided discussion about depression, suicide, and what to do if they are concerned about a friend. We are using a program called Signs of Suicide (SOS). The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help. Following the video, students will complete a brief depression screening form. This form cannot provide a diagnosis of depression but does indicate whether a young person should seek help from a mental health professional. If you do NOT wish your child to participate in this program and/or screener, please contact Kristin Girardin, Director of Student Services. The bell schedule will be flipped on 9/30 and 10/1 to allow counselors and clinicians to meet with any students needing follow up prior to the end of the day.. The period rotation will be 7, 3, 5 & 1 and then 8, 4, 6 & 2. Academy students will follow their regular schedule and report to the library for the last block of the day.

Please join me in congratulating the following students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma in the 2025-26 school year. This award represents academic achievement at the highest levels, as students earning this award have earned scores of 3 or higher on a total of 6 AP exams, including the successful completion of a rigorous 2-year Capstone course sequence. As part of the Capstone course sequence, each of these students designed, conducted, and presented an original research project on a topic of their choosing. Well done, Wildcats!

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid: Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life. A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 1: Strong Start, Pre-K-12: The FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts. The first goal of the strategic plan focuses on each and every student having a strong start in FCPS. Whether they’re joining us in preschool or in high school, we want our students to be set up for success. See how Goal 1 is being put into practice. Safety Drills During the School Year: Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and extreme weather. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance. The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your child before and after school lockdown drills. Watch this video to learn about safety terms including lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned. If students, staff, or families have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
Your Child’s Presence at School Matters: The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help Keep Our School Phone-Free: Updates to the FCPS Cellphone Policy: Please remind your student that high schoolers can no longer use their cellphones and other devices during lunch time, and that students must use FCPS-issued devices for school-related digital activities during the instructional day. Personal electronic communication or computing devices must be off and personally stored (such as in a backpack) for the duration of the school day. This includes personal laptops and tablets, smartphones and smartwatches, and other similar devices. Save the Date for the Annual Special Education Family Conference: The Annual Special Education Family Conference will take place on Saturday, November 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Hayfield Secondary School. Hosted by FCPS and community partners, its theme — Connected Communities, Thriving Students — highlights the power of partnerships that support student success. This no-cost, in-person event brings together families, staff, and community partners to explore special education services, supports, and resources and to build meaningful connections. The conference will feature an inspiring opening session, engaging breakout sessions, an exhibitor hall, and lunch for all participants. SEL Screener Parent/Guardian Notification: The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported. After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. Request PSAT and SAT School Day Testing Accommodations and Multilingual Support: FCPS high schools will give the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) to 10th and 11th graders on Wednesday, October 7. That same day, 12th graders will participate in SAT School Day. Because these exams are operated by the College Board, students do not automatically receive testing accommodations or multilingual support. Families can view Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about College Board accommodations on the FCPS website. If you have a student with disabilities in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade this school year, please review the accommodations request process and return forms to the high school by Monday, August 3. If you have a multilingual learner (ML) in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade this school year, please review the ML support request process and return forms by Thursday, August 27, if you wish to request ML support for the October 2026 PSAT/NMSQT or SAT School Day.
