The Clearview Community Connect

Stronger Together

Dear Clearview Families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at Back to School Night! We hope that you found the night informative and, please know, we are open to feedback on ways we can make this (and all events) even better.

Enjoy the 4-day weekend,

Clearview Administration

This week at Clearview

From left to right, students examine materials with microscopes, pose with a soccer ball outdoors, smile together near a classroom doorway, complete an activity with their teacher, and read books at a desk.

🌧️Weather Happens, FCPS Is Ready🌧️

Virginia is no stranger to inclement weather. From severe thunderstorms to high winds to flooding, many different types of weather events can (and sometimes do) impact our schools. FCPS has a plan for each of these scenarios that prioritizes the safety of all our students and staff. What does FCPS do during a flood? What about a severe thunderstorm?

Learn how FCPS prepares for and responds to weather events, and find resources to help your family prepare, on the FCPS Weather Safety webpage.

⚠️ Know Our Security Terms

FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.

Watch this video to learn about safety terms including lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned.

If students, staff, or families have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.

Get to Know Our School Health Staff

Mallory Arnold, PHN is Clearview’s school nurse. Contact her at 571-396-1276 for health plans, medication drop-offs, or questions about chronic conditions. Visit our school health webpage for forms, illness policies, and tips to keep your child healthy!

Prayer Space Request

In accordance with Regulation 1502, we want to ensure all students and staff have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within the school division, inclusive of their religious or non-religious beliefs. Parents/guardians may request a prayer space for their student by contacting Joshua Redford, Assistant Principal. Please review the FCPS Religious Accommodations site for more details.

Need help with ParentVUE?

Visit the ParentVUE Support page on the Clearview Elementary School website for clear, step-by-step directions on activating your account, signing in on the website or mobile app, selecting your child, and navigating important tools. Families can also learn how to review school information, monitor attendance and academic progress, update emergency care information, complete digital consent forms, access MTSS information, and find help when needed. Visit our growing Clearview’s ParentVUE Support page to explore these helpful resources.

First Friday

Students and staff are invited to come to school wearing college or career clothing on the First Friday each month!  Our initial First Friday will be on September 11. By introducing college and career concepts early on, we encourage students to think critically about their interests, skills, and values while inspiring them to reach their full potential.  College and career exploration supports a variety of areas, such as:

  • Confidence: A sense of direction can boost students' confidence and self-esteem.
  • Relevance: Understanding how education connects to real-world careers can make learning more meaningful and engaging.
  • Long-Term Perspective: Students can begin to envision the future and set goals.
  • Motivation: Seeing the practical applications of education can inspire students to put forth effort to achieve their goals.

After School Clubs

Thank you to those of you who have already returned the After-School Club Interest Form/Permission Slip. To ensure your child is able to participate, please note the due date of September 8. Please be sure to fill out the form in its entirety.

All after school club communication will be delivered via the Talking Points app. If you have not downloaded the app, please do so today and enable push notifications to ensure you don’t miss any time-sensitive messages:

  • Open your phone's Settings menu.
  • Find and select TalkingPoints for Families.
  • Tap Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications.

Please use Talking Points to contact Rachel Charlton, Assistant Principal, with any club related questions.

Advanced Academic Programs

Families are invited to attend two AAP information meetings led by Holly Hill, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART):

  • AAP Continuum of Services: September 16, at 9:00 AM in the cafeteria. Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS students.
  • Full-Time AAP Identification:  October 21, at 6:00 PM in the library. Families will learn about the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.

For more information, please contact Holly Hill, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, via Talking Points or visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs webpage.

Transportation Cooperation

Dr. Reid urges families with students who are assigned to a school bus to use this service whenever possible instead of Kiss & Ride. Read more in Dr. Reid’s message to families.

If you do need to use Kiss & Ride, please follow Clearview’s established arrival and dismissal procedures. To keep students safe, we ask that you refrain from passing the line of cars and put your car in park while you wait.

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. Your continued partnership is how each of us can keep our schools safe for learning and growth. Please contact Rachel Charlton, Assistant Principal, with any questions or concerns.

Your Child’s Presence at School Matters

The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success by helping them build good habits.

If you or your family need any kind of support, please reach out to our front office. We are here for you! Visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.

Labor Day

Tomorrow, Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.

Patriot Day

Patriot Day

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we

remember and honor the victims, families, heroes, and survivors of 9/11, and the courage and determination of our nation's first responders.

With the upcoming 25th anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.

All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.

Rosh Hashanah

Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, September 11. That day is an evening-only observance day.
