 Our Back to School Night was packed! Parents had the opportunity to learn about our PTA, community organizations, specials classes and how the school day unfolds for students. Thank you to everyone bringing such positive energy to the Den.

A Message from Ms. Consolla
Thank you again to everyone who came out for Back to School Night this week. If you have not already joined the PTA and/or considered volunteering, I invite you to do so. This organization does so much to enrich both the classroom and community experience here at Fort Hunt. As our PTA president Danielle Cotter shared, engaging in the PTA events is a way to connect your family to the larger community. You can easily access all the information at the PTA website.
Safety is always our highest priority at Fort Hunt. Of great concern is the repeated crossing of Linton Lane outside the crosswalk. Just this afternoon, a neighbor called to say that she almost hit a student coming out between cars. It is never okay to cross Linton except at the crosswalk. We need all parents to follow this safety rule. Even when you're in a rush, taking the extra minute to use the crosswalk means you're modeling to your child what being safe looks like.
We have a short week ahead as we approach the Labor Day holiday. Please remember that schools and offices will be closed September 4–7. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and some extra time with family and friends.

Reminder: No school on Friday, Sept 4 & Monday Sept 7
All FCPS schools including Fort Hunt will be closed on Friday and Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Stay safe, Foxes! We will see everyone back at school on Tuesday, September 8.

💕New this year: Windows, Mirrors & Doors
Windows represent the opportunities we have to learn about different cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Mirrors represent the ability to see yourself and feel valued. It gives the viewer a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent the opportunity to enter and engage with another culture for a moment in time.
September 15-October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. If you and/or your family came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America, you are invited to bring in photos of you, your family, small artifacts and/or books. Astrid Mendez, our new Family Liaison, will work with you to create any descriptive labels you’d like to add. She can be reached at almendez@fcps.edu
Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid
Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.
A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. The closest event to Mount Eagle will be later this month.
Registration links will be shared soon. Childcare and interpretation services will be provided. Events are one-hour long and open to all. Find out about other opportunities to connect with Dr. Reid.

Are you working your way through back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.
- Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in ParentVUE. To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
- Submit daylong absences by clicking “Report Absence.”
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact Rosa Dobarco (rrdobarco@fcps.edu) for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage.
Birthdays at Fort Hunt
Birthdays are a special day for children. Our PTA recognizes every child at the monthly Birthday Books & Cupcakes. Each child picks out a book to take home and a cupcake to enjoy at lunch.
Do not sent in any cupcakes, treats or items to pass out. Thank you!

Toys, Fidgets, Stuffies... Stay at Home
If your child has an accommodation for the use of a fidget in their IEP or 504 plan, we will provide a fidget for them. All toys, fidgets, stuffed animals, squishies, pop-its etc., need to stay at home even if they're small. Thank you for ensuring your student complies with this.

We are PET-Free on Our Campus
As a reminder, all FCPS campuses, including Fort Hunt, do not allow pets at any time or day of the week. This includes drop-off and afterschool pick-up. It's fine to wait up on the sidewalk on Linton Lane with your pet. This rule is in place to ensure all students feel safe and to keep our grounds clean. Thank you!

Get Involved with your PTA
Consider becoming a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Fort Hunt. It's a great way to connect with other parents, learn about how to support your child and to have fun at their amazing community events! There are many ways where you can share your voice, talents and time. Everyone working together makes this a great community. Check out the PTA website for more information.

Do you have questions about attendance or food/drink at school or what students can wear? If so, please check out our Parent/Guardian Handbook on our Fort Hunt website. It's available with translations. Click here to access it. Of course, if you have a question about a situation that is not listed, reach out to your child's teacher or an administrator.

We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone. Please contact us when there is a question or concern, especially related to bullying. As a parent, you will often hear about something before staff might. Thank you for all your support.
