The energy in the gym was unmatched for our First Quarter House Meeting! The Yellow, Green, and Blue houses gathered together to celebrate all the hard work, positivity, and house spirit our students have shown since day one. From cheering sections to proud smiles, seeing all three houses unite reminded us what makes our school family so special.

Our 6th graders put on their thinking caps to create detailed Chromebook Care Mind Maps! From carrying devices with two hands and keeping food and drinks away, to typing gently and staying focused on schoolwork, these leaders are laying out clear blueprints for responsible tech use this year. We love seeing critical thinking and digital citizenship in action! 🧠🗺️

Dear Little Run Families,
Happy Friday! We have officially wrapped up our second wonderful week of school, and I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all of our parents and guardians. Your support, patience, and partnership during these opening weeks have made our transition back to school smooth, efficient, and truly joyful. As we head into this well-deserved long weekend, I hope your family takes the time to rest, recharge, and celebrate the fantastic start to the academic year.
Walking through the hallways this past week, it has been remarkable to see how quickly our students are settling into their daily routines. There is a vibrant energy in every classroom, driven by our students' incredible desire to learn and excel. I have been deeply inspired by the personal growth and maturity our children have demonstrated since returning from summer break. They have come back not only eager to learn, but ready to lift one another up and make the absolute most of their time at school.
A true highlight of our week was holding our very first House meeting of the year! It was inspiring to listen to the students share what these gatherings mean to them in their own words. Across every grade level, students reflected on how House meetings help us build a strong, inclusive community and offer a fun space to make new friends. Watching older and younger students bond over shared goals underscored the deep spirit of connection that defines our school culture.
We are stepping into this long weekend with tremendous momentum, high spirits, and immense pride in our students' accomplishments so far. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us every day and for working alongside us to ensure their success. Enjoy the extended weekend with your loved ones, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed, energized, and ready for another great week ahead!

BYOD/Cellphone Policy
Help Keep Our School Distraction-Free
Please remind your student that personal electronic communication or computing devices should be off and personally stored (i.e. backpacks) for the duration of the school day — bell to bell. This includes:
- Personal laptops and tablets.
- Smartphones and smartwatches.
- Other personal electronic communication or computing devices.

ACTION ITEM: Early Release Wednesday
Little Run will release students at 12:15 PM on the following days:
- September 30
- November 18
- January 13
- April 7
Please note: While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:15 on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by school-based staff. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.
ACTION REQUIRED: Elementary school parents and caregivers should use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to review and provide consent for Early Release Wednesday Childcare. Make sure to scroll to the very bottom for Online Verification Update.
There will be 7 modules you will need to review and/or update before submitting your packet. As you complete each area, use the Previous or Save and Continue buttons at the bottom to navigate between pages. Do not use the browser back and forward buttons. A green check mark means the module is complete. An orange exclamation mark means the module is in progress.
- OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
- OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.

Cav Carnival and Woodson Pyramid Night
September 3rd - 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Come celebrate the new school year and Woodson Pyramid Night on Thursday, September 3rd at the Woodson Football Stadium! At our annual Cav Carnival we will have games, face painting, prizes, and finish with running of the field. Students K-6 get in free with a paying adult. Carnival Games start at 4:30pm, running of the field at 6:45. Our football game will start at 7:00pm against the Edison Eagles.

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid
Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life.
A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Events are planned for the following dates at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted):

- Monday, September 28, at Riverside Elementary School
- Monday, October 19, at Spring Hill Elementary School

Weather Safety
Weather Happens, FCPS Is Ready
Virginia is no stranger to inclement weather. From severe thunderstorms to high winds to flooding, many different types of weather events can (and sometimes do) impact our schools. FCPS has a plan for each of these scenarios that prioritizes the safety of all our students and staff. What does FCPS do during a flood? What about a severe thunderstorm?

Safety Drills
Safety Drills During the School Year
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and extreme weather. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.
Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your child before and after school lockdown drills.
⚠️ Know Our Security Terms
FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.
Watch this video to learn about safety terms including lockdown; secure the building; and stay put, stay tuned.
If students, staff, or families have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
