 Important Dates
Friday, September 4th School Holiday (No School)
Monday, September 7th Labor Day - Holiday (No School)
Thursday, September 17th Back to School Night 6:00pm-8:00pm
Happy four-day weekend! It has been a wonderful start to the school year—our building is full of energy as students build community, dive into learning, and master their daily routines. Thank you for helping them stay on track by discussing on time arrival to school and classes at home. Students are on time when they are in their class when the bell rings at 7:30 a.m.
Laptops have been distributed to students this week. The Chromebooks utilize a standard USB-C charger. Classrooms are equipped with chargers, but if your student requires a charger at home or still needs a device, please visit our tech office. Also, please help us remind students to handle their equipment with care. (Note: Any outstanding fees or unreturned devices from last year can be settled at the front office.)
Finally, bus riders have received their transportation badges, lanyards, and protective pouches. Students should scan these badges daily when boarding and exiting the bus (or manually enter their student ID if forgotten). Details on replacement badges will be shared soon.
Mrs. Barrow
Glasgow Middle School is grateful for our PTA's support — in the classroom and in connecting our school with the community and families. Here are a few ways to get involved:
-
Join the PTA! As an educator ($5), individual ($15) or GMS family ($25) – joining the PTA allows you to vote on important issues and shows support for the PTA’s work. There is no further commitment! https://glasgowms.givebacks.com/store
-
Attend the first virtual PTA meeting on Sept 8, 7pm. Zoom link HERE. Hear updates from Principal Barrow, meet the Assistant Principals and learn more about PTA activities, upcoming events like Volunteer Night and Heritage Night.
-
Attend Volunteer Night on Sept 22, 5:30 p.m. All are welcome at Glasgow PTA Volunteer Night at Total Wine (Plaza at Landmark, 6240 Little River Turnpike) to learn more about opportunities to get involved throughout the year. Grab some snacks, meet fellow GMS families and enjoy a (free!) wine tasting or non-alcoholic beverage at the event. NO COMMITMENT REQUIRED but please RSVP.
Questions? Ideas! Email the Glasgow PTA any time at glasgowpta.va@gmail.com
This fall, every FCPS student will receive a student identification (ID) card as part of a divisionwide effort to modernize school transportation, improve communication with families, and strengthen student safety while traveling to and from school.
Every student who rides the school bus will need to tap on and tap off the bus every day using their new Student ID card. Families can help by reinforcing this new habit with their child.
Learn more about the new transportation system and student ID cards.
Glasgow Back to School Night Join us on September 17 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM to meet your student’s teachers, counselors, and administrators. Families will follow their student’s daily schedule to visit each classroom. We look forward to seeing you there!
Family Life Education (FLE) Preview Night Before Back to School Night on September 17, visit our Health and Physical Education department from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM in room C137A/B. You can review lesson materials and connect with HPE teachers.
TJHSST Information Session Parents of 8th graders interested in Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) are invited to an informational session on September 17 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. TJHSST representatives will discuss academic programming and the application process. All are welcome, and translation services will be provided.
Course Requests & Schedule Changes
The window to request a student schedule change is now open. Our counseling team has put a great deal of effort into placing students in the courses they need and requested for this school year.
If your student would like to request a course adjustment, please complete and submit this form by THIS FRIDAY.
Please keep the following details in mind:
- Submitting a request does not guarantee that a schedule change will be made.
- Each request is reviewed individually, but adjustments are subject to course availability and scheduling constraints.
All approved changes will be made during the week of September 8, so that students will be settled into new classes in time for back-to-school night on September 17th. If you or your student have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your student's counselor.
World Language Credit Exam – On November 10, 2026, Glasgow will host the World Language Credit Exam. The World Languages Credit by Exam is an optional test for students in grades 7-12 who can speak and write (type) proficiently in a language other than English. Based on the results of the exam, students can earn 1, 2, and/or 3 passing world language credits. Find more information on the Credit Exam Website.
Information about the registration process will be coming soon.

Physical Forms for Middle School Sports
FCPS has introduced a new platform called Final Forms for submitting all required PPE (Preparticipation Physical Evaluation) forms for Middle School Sports.
To help make the registration process as easy as possible, please review the information below for step-by-step instructions on creating your account and completing the necessary forms.
- Parents receive an email from Final Forms to confirm their account
- Once you confirm the account, you can begin the registration process. Your Final Forms accounts are created using your email address attached to your parent vue account.
- If a parent does not have a parent vue account, they must create one to have a final forms account.
- Once the parent created the parent vue account, within a couple of days you will receive an email to confirm your parent vue account. Once you confirm your parent vue account the process to create their final forms begins. This could take 24-48 hours to establish once you have confirmed your parent vue account. This process does not happen overnight.
-
Afterschool Specialists and Coaches will not be manually adding any students or parents to the system. Please revise the procedures accordingly, as our staff will not have the ability or responsibility to manually add students or parents.
The procedures should reflect the appropriate process for student and parent enrollment and ensure that all steps assigned to Afterschool Specialists and Coaches are consistent with their system access and responsibilities.
Please be sure to create your account and submit all required forms before your student participates in sports.
Thank you for your help and cooperation! We appreciate you taking the time to complete this important step and look forward to a great sports season!
If you have any questions please call 703-813-8740.
