📚Library Orientation for Volunteers

Sangster Library is hosting a 45-minute training session for all new and returning library volunteers.

Tuesday, Sept 8*; 1-1:45 p.m., Sangster Library

*If you are unable to attend, please reach out to me at sloden@fcps.edu so we can make sure you receive the information you need.

**Two Trainings Required: All library volunteers must attend both the Library Volunteer Training and the general volunteer training hosted by Ms. Jankovich.**

The general volunteer training will be scheduled after Back to School Night. More information about that session will be shared soon.

Required FCPS Steps

To volunteer in the library, all volunteers must complete the official FCPS volunteer screening process. Please register as soon as possible through the FCPS Volunteer Portal.

🏆Want to be a Field Trip Chaperone?

All prospective field trip chaperones MUST be registered and approved through Volunteer FCPS. Complete the following steps: 

  1. Register in the Volunteer FCPS online volunteer management system to create a profile. 
  2. Complete our FCPS Volunteer Orientation 
  3. Submit an online volunteer application that includes your contact information, areas of interest, and availability. 
  4. Depending on the level of involvement, some volunteers may be required to undergo background checks.

Winter Band Concert

🎵Band and Strings Sign-ups

Students in grades 4-6 have the opportunity to sign up for Band or Strings.

Registrations are due by Tuesday, Sept 8.

🏫Back to School Nights (BTSN) Info: 9/14 & 9/23

Visit your child’s classroom, meet the teachers, and learn about the upcoming school year. BTSN is for adults but Girl Scouts offer babysitting services*.

BTSN for K-3rd on Mon, 9/14, from 6 – 6:45 pm or  7 – 7:45 pm.

BTSN for 4th-6th on Wed, 9/23 from 6 – 6:45 pm and again from 7 – 7:45 pm

*Girl Scouts offer FREE Babysitting Services for BTSN for children who are potty trained & older; check in times start at 5:45 pm outside the gym. Children can bring books/games, but GS will also have art supplies/group games.

🤓Remember your Eye Glasses!

Sangster's Health Room will be conducting vision and hearing screenings in the months of September and October. We screen kinder, 3rd and all new-to-county students.

Please have your students bring any prescribed eye glasses to school.

🚌Patience at the Bus Stop!

Students will begin tapping student ID cards as they board and exit the bus. 

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers may need some extra time at each bus stop. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Lake Braddock Pyramid Night

🏈Pyramid Night: 9/10, 5 pm-6:30 pm

Pyramid Night will be celebrated at Lake Braddock Secondary School during the first home football game on Thursday, Sept. 10. Free admission to the celebration on the front field start at 5 pm and wrap up at 6:30 pm before the 7 pm football game.

🚨Football Game Security Screenings

New this year, all spectators will participate in security screenings A bag policy will also be in place.

🍎Attendance

Report absences online through ParentVue or by email or by calling 703-644-8282. Visit our attendance page for more information!

⏰School Hours, Late Arrival Policy, Early Pick Up

  • School hours are 9:10 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.
  • Students who arrive after 9:10 a.m. must be walked into the main office and signed in by an adult.
  • If you need to pick your student up early, come to the office with your ID, and we will call your student down.
  • Early pick up cut-off time is 3:30 pm. 
  • Whenever possible, keep your child’s transportation method the same each day.

❎No Glass Containers

Please do NOT send glass containers with students for lunch or snack. They are a safety hazard if they break.

❎No Fast Food

FCPS discourages bringing commercial fast-food and soda lunches to school.

👍Label All Belongings

LABEL all sweatshirts, jackets, lunchboxes, water bottles with your student's name. If it ends up in the Lost and Found, we can easily return to students.
