Woodson Weekly is published every Monday to provide the community with important information about school life at Woodson High School.

Message from Mr. Greata
Dear Woodson Community,
What a great Pyramid Night last Thursday! Thank you to everyone who came out to help us start the school year off right. We also deeply appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we instituted changes to our security processes and weapons screening.
Earlier in the day, our leadership students hosted an incredible pep rally centered on our school goal: empowering students to become skilled architects of their own futures. True architects take ownership, adapt to changing conditions, and set strong, clear goals. We challenged our students to own their future—starting with this school year—and to get involved. To that end, several of our club officers introduced themselves and invited their peers to join. In addition to the pep rally, our leadership classes organized our traditional first dance after the football game. Thank you to everyone who made these events such a success!
Later at our Cav Carnival, we welcomed pyramid students and families for an evening of games, food, moon bounces, and plenty of heat! Thank you to Will Cogan and his Sports Leadership students for their hard work in getting our home football opener off on the right foot. While all of the sports leadership students made major contributions, a special shoutout goes to committee chair Lyla Devlin for her outstanding leadership.
We would also like to extend another thank you to David Marks and the Athletic Boosters for their support in securing a new scoreboard for our stadium. Made possible through a partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools and Main Street Bank, the new scoreboard looks fantastic and will light up our field for many years to come. It was wonderful celebrating its debut at Thursday night's ribbon-cutting ceremony.
After such an exciting start, we are looking forward to settling into a productive routine for the first quarter. The big news this week is the opening of the Schedule Change Request Window. If your student would like to request a class change for any reason, they must complete the Schedule Change Request Form. This form will be posted on Schoology All Students on Tuesday, September 8, promptly at 7:30 a.m. Requests will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to seat availability and schedule compatibility.
Please note that there will be no activities this Friday evening, as many in our community will be observing Rosh Hashanah. L’Shanah Tovah to all who celebrate—may you have a sweet, healthy, and happy New Year!
Looking ahead, Back-to-School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 17. We will send a detailed message to the entire community later this week with additional information.

Checking out early?
The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to the Attendance Office in the morning!
Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them, making sending a note the quickest option!
For emergencies or last-minute appointments, you can also call the 24-hour attendance line at 703-503-4800 and leave a message.

Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.

If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the attendance office. Please ask your child to go to the clinic if they are not feeling well.

Yearbooks
The yearbook is currently $70, the lowest price of the year. Our price will increase to $80 after 12/31.
Senior ads are also available for purchase, with prices ranging from $40-380, depending on size.
Families can purchase their yearbook or senior’s baby ad on yearbookordercenter.com, using the code 5278.
Student Services
If your children qualify for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM), they may also be eligible for:

Waive student course fees, reduced student parking pass, and waive senior fees.

Information about scholarships, classes, and services from non-FCPS agencies and organizations.
To receive these additional benefits, you must give written consent allowing FCPS staff to share your children's meal eligibility status with administrators, school counselors and the school's finance technician. This information will not be shared with any other parties.
The Consent to Share is available here in multiple languages. Copies are available in Student Services, as well.
Families who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost for their children. This includes more than one-third of FCPS students. Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM) application before the start of each school year.
The application for FRM is now available for the 2026-27 school year. Students who were approved for FRM last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should reapply as soon as possible so eligible children continue to receive meals at no cost.

Math Center
The Math Center will open on September 9th. It will be open afterschool on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-3:45pm in B208. Please note we are not open on Tuesdays.

Did you know you can view your student’s report card under the Documents tab in ParentVUE? You also have the option to “Go Paperless” for Secondary Report Cards and Elementary Progress Reports by simply checking the box under your account details. This ensures your documents are delivered digitally, saving paper and arriving faster — plus they won’t be mailed to your home.
