Sherisse Kenerson will serve as our Acting Assistant Principal over the next few months while Ms. Fuller is on maternity leave. Join us in welcoming Ms. Kenerson to Bailey's!
Hi Bailey’s Tigers!
Week two of the school year is officially in the books! Our students are doing a fantastic job settling in, establishing strong daily routines, building new friendships, and reconnecting with old friends. We hope you are enjoying the long weekend!
As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 7, and classes will resume on Tuesday, September 8.
Our students are already diving into meaningful learning across all subjects, and we can't wait to see how much they grow this year. This week, a few of our fall testing windows open for our 1st and 2nd grade students. They will be taking the MAP assessment for math and the VALLSS assessment for reading. These important assessments help our teachers understand what skills students currently have so they can best support and challenge them moving forward.
To help our students do their best, please ensure your children are getting plenty of rest each night and arriving at school on time every day. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday morning!

💙Tracey Brown Rice, Assistant Principal
🧡Keith Downing, Assistant Principal
💙Sherisse Kenerson, Assistant Principal
📂 This week’s Thursday Folder includes:
- Bailey's Primary September Calendars (sent earlier this weekl)
- Parent Coffee: Students Rights & Responsibilities (English& Spanish)
- PTA Membership Applications (English & Spanish)
Please take a few minutes to review these items with your student so you stay up-to-date with all the exciting things happening in our school community!
There is no school on Monday, September 7 for the Labor Day holiday. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
🎒 Students return to school on Tuesday, September 8.
We hope our students and families enjoy a safe, relaxing, and wonderful Labor Day weekend together! 💙🧡

Ms. Bittenbender and Ms. Molina, 2nd grade teachers, had a great day with their students!
Birthday Treat School Policy
To ensure the safety of all our students, especially those who have food allergies, parents should only send in non-food treats or donate an item to the school to celebrate your child’s birthday. Please do not send food (cupcakes, cookies, doughnuts, etc.) treats to school to celebrate your child’s birthday. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school, here are ways you can help your child celebrate their special day:
- Bring in a favorite book to share/read
- Donate a book to the school library or classroom in honor of your child’s birthday
- Donate a board game to your child’s class to be used for indoor recess
- Send in small, tangible items to be distributed to the class (pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.)
Thank you for your understanding and support of our Birthday Treat School Policy as we work to provide safe and healthy options for celebrating our students.

Advanced Academics Parent Information Session: Thursday, Oct. 1st
Please join us for an AAP Parent Information Session on Thursday, October 1st at either 9:30am or 5:00pm in the cafeteria. The morning and evening session will have the same information. There will be Spanish translation services at both meetings. This session is for parents with students at Bailey’s Primary and Bailey’s Upper.
Check out the current Bailey's AAP Newsletter! This edition provides information about meeting the needs of our students and pathways to school based services.
For further information on the Advanced Academic Program feel free to look at the Bailey’s AAP Website or visit the FCPS Advanced Academic Programs website.
Advanced Academic Program (AAP) fall referral window is only for students in Grades 3 to 8 who are new to FCPS since January 1, 2026. Parents and guardians who would like their new student to be considered for Full-Time AAP services must submit the Full-Time AAP Referral Form by Thursday, October 15. Late referrals will not be accepted.
For students who are not new to FCPS, the spring Full-Time AAP identification window is open to students in Grades 2 to 7. Families interested in referring their student for consideration during the spring window must submit a referral by Tuesday, December 15.
Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for Full-Time AAP services.
Other Advanced Academic Services
At the elementary level, all students are screened each spring for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services. Families may also refer their student for consideration for Subject-Specific or Part-Time AAP at any time during the school year. Eligibility decisions are made at the school level, and families are notified of the decision within 30 school days of the referral. The Full-Time AAP referral deadlines do not apply.
At the middle school level, honors courses are open to all students.
For more information, please contact Reilly McDonald, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, at rcmcdonald@fcps.edu rcmcdonald@fcps.edu or visit the Advanced Academic Programs webpage.

FCPS is no stranger to inclement weather. From severe thunderstorms to high winds to flooding, many different types of weather events can (and sometimes do) impact our schools. FCPS has a plan for each of these scenarios that prioritizes the safety of all our students and staff. What does FCPS do during a flood? What about a severe thunderstorm?
Learn how FCPS prepares for and responds to weather events, and find resources to help your family prepare, on the FCPS Weather Safety webpage.

The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success by helping them build good habits.
If you or your family need any kind of support, please reach out to our front office. We are here for you! Visit FCPS’ Attendance webpage for tips and strategies.

Please remind your student that personal electronic communication or computing devices should be off and personally stored (i.e. backpacks) for the duration of the school day — bell to bell. This includes:
- Personal laptops and tablets.
- Smartphones and smartwatches.
- Other personal electronic communication or computing devices.
If you need to reach your student during the school day, please call our main office at [main office number]. Learn more about the FCPS Cellphone Policy and Device Policy.
