Dear Madison Families,
Our first week of school was a fantastic success, with students jumping right back into their daily routines and bringing positive energy into the classroom as learning gets underway. Thank you to all the families who joined us for Back to School Night—it was wonderful connecting with everyone. The school board messages and Madison’s welcome video recording from the evening are now posted on our website if you were unable to attend.
Looking ahead, don't forget that the County Fair is this Thursday! We look forward to seeing our school community come together at Madison to enjoy the fun activities prior to the first home football game. As a reminder, we have student holidays on September 4 and 7, so enjoy the long Labor Day weekend!

IMPORTANT INFO. & EVENTS
Student ID Cards for Madison Bus Riders
We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services.
Student ID cards will be given out this week during Advisory classes. Students who take the bus for any reason, daily transportation, academy or field trips will have to have their card to ride the bus. Please ask your student to keep this in a safe place. Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus.
We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.
I Forgot Shelf * Update*
The “I Forgot” shelf in front office is provided as a courtesy for students who may have forgotten an item. Parents may email their student directly to let them know that an item has been placed on the shelf. Please note that the school is not responsible for monitoring, organizing, or managing the shelf or its contents. Students use the shelf at their own discretion.
*** Since students cannot receive emails from outside FCPS, we have created a QR Code and URL that is posted on the I Forgot Shelf. Parents can scan the QR code and fill out a form, using their Student ID number, and send a message to their student that something has been dropped off for them. ***
Lost and Found Electronic Devices: Students who have misplaced electronic devices from last school year are encouraged to stop by the security office to check if their item was turned into the lost and found. Electronic devices, such as phones, headphones, Air pods, etc. that are not claimed by the end of next week will be donated.
Yearbook & Picture Day Updates for Families
Yearbook Pre-Orders (Lowest Price of the Year)
- Price Increase: Bumps to $75 starting September 19
- Action: Order early to lock in the lower rate.
Underclassmen Portraits
- Dates: Wednesday, September 9 & Thursday, September 10 during the English classes.
- Online English Students: Pictures will be taken during Advisory periods.
- Picture Retakes: Scheduled for Friday, October 16.
- Images Available: Approximately two-three weeks after picture day.
STUDENT SERVICES & TESTING
SAT School Day, October 7
Seniors interested in taking the SAT School Day at Madison on October 7, MUST reserve a seat by September 2. FCPS will cover the cost for any twelfth-grade student to take the test. Students will need to use their school email account to register for the test. Madison High School: 2026 SAT School Day Intent to Participate Form
General information about the SAT School Day test format is available on the College Board webpage. Directions on how to access scores and score release dates are published by College Board via the College Board website. We will share exam day schedules and additional details in the coming weeks. PSAT/NMSQT, October 7
All 10th and 11th grade students will automatically be registered to take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 7. FCPS will cover the cost.

MAP Growth Assessments
Students in select English and Math classes will participate in MAP assessments to determine students’ status and growth this fall. English classes will test between Aug. 31-Sept.3. English classes will test between Sept. 8-11.
Tests are delivered within the classroom instructional block. For more information on this test, visit The Academic Screening, Growth, and Diagnostic Tests webpage.
World Language Credit by Exam (WLCBE): Registration Coming Soon!
The WLCBE assesses language proficiency in languages other than English for students in grades 7-12. This optional exam may be used to award credits towards graduation, determine course placement for language courses offered in FCPS, and fulfill the world language requirements for the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy.
Students who wish to take the exam should be able to proficiently understand and communicate in the testing language, and will be asked to listen, read, speak, and write/type or, for American Sign Language, sign/interpret.
If you would like for your student to participate in the WLCBE this fall, please complete this form and submit it to your student’s counselor. Registration is open from September 8 to October 16. LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES
Football Game Safety and Security UpdateAs we prepare for another exciting fall sports season, FCPS is implementing additional safety and security measures at all varsity football games.
Beginning this season, all spectators will participate in security screenings using the same weapons detection technology introduced in our middle and high schools last school year. A standardized bag policy will also be in place to help ensure a safe, efficient entry process for everyone attending our games.
These enhancements are designed to support a safe and welcoming environment while allowing families, students, and community members to enjoy Friday night football. We encourage attendees to arrive a little earlier than usual to allow time for screening. Get more information about weapons screening at football games.
Logistics:
- There will be 2 entrances set up for "weapon detection" and "bag check." 1 will be just past the Booster pass gate close to the baseball field and 1 will be located near the rock.
- All fans/spectators MUST enter through these screening stations before heading to the ticket gate.
- Please note expectations related to bags and items being brought into the event and plan ahead linked above.

Everything You Need to Do in SIS ParentVUE
Are you working your way through back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.
- Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in ParentVUE. To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
- Submit daylong absences by clicking “Report Absence."
- Check your child’s immunization records and submit updates. Please visit the How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions.
Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources
Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.
