Our first group of students received their bus IDs today. However, not all bus riders received their badge, as some have not yet been printed and/or the substitute didn’t pass them out. Once your child has the ID, please make sure your child puts it in a place they can easily find it. They will be asked to tap onto the bus in the morning and afternoons. As we get badges printed, they will be passed out to students.
Come celebrate the new school year and Woodson Pyramid Night on Thursday, September 3rd at the Woodson Football Stadium! At our annual Cav Carnival we will have games, face painting, prizes, and finish with running of the field. Students K-6 get in free with a paying adult. Carnival Games start at 4:30pm, running of the field at 6:45.
Meet Principal Prindle in the endzone at 6:45 PM to run the field together. Let’s make sure WFES has a huge turnout!
Our football game will start at 7:00pm against the Edison Eagles.
With the forecast showing high temperatures on Thursday, we wanted to let community members know that there will be water/cooling stations spread throughout the Cav Carnival event.
New Stadium Security Procedures
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, we are introducing several important security updates this season, including the implementation of weapons screenings at all stadium entrances.
To facilitate these enhancements, we have updated our entry and exit policies. We want to ensure our community is fully informed of these protocols before joining us for what promises to be a wonderful celebration of school spirit. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we implement these vital safety measures.
Key Policy Changes
- Stadium Entrances: Attendees may enter the stadium via the main entrance near the parking lot or the Frost Middle School entrance.
- Screening & Re-entry: Screenings will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the start of the Cav Carnival. Please note that once you have entered the stadium, re-entry is not permitted. Concessions will be available for purchase, and water stations will be provided throughout the carnival.
- Student Supervision: All elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the "no re-entry" policy, students may not leave the stadium to meet parents, and parents will not be able to enter briefly just to check on students.
- Entry Cutoff: For security purposes, entry to the stadium is only permitted until the end of halftime. No further entry will be allowed after this time.
- Screening Process: Our screening is non-intrusive. If a guest does not pass the initial screening, they will be asked to return any prohibited items to their vehicle before being re-screened. Small items like keys and stadium seats can be passed around the towers during the process.
Prohibited Items
The following items are strictly prohibited inside the stadium:
- Standard bags (backpacks, purses, fanny packs, and tote bags)
- Outside food and beverages
- Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)
- Any item prohibited by FCPS policy or deemed a safety concern by staff
Approved Bags
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags (no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”)
- Small clutch bags (no larger than 6.5” x 4.5”)
- Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection
It’s election season here at WFES! Fifth and sixth graders listened to an info session this week on how the SCA process works. Responsible students who are looking to take on a leadership role in our school’s SCA are encouraged to apply to run for student council office. Links to the application/permission form and all additional SCA information can be found in the All Students Course in Schoology.
Applications are due on Tuesday, 9/8 by 7:00pm. All applications are accepted digitally. If your student has any questions please direct them to email Ms. Hibbitts at ghibbitts@fcps.edu .
At WFES, students have the opportunity each year to complete a Summer Reading Log. Students who read at least five books over the summer can return the completed log with a family member signature by Tuesday, September 8th. Participating students have the chance to win a $5 gift certificate to our WFES Book Fair. Two students will be randomly chosen from each class. Reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or Ms. Reynolds at kareynoldsni@fcps.edu if you would like a copy of the reading log to complete. Your child can also just write a list of the book titles and bring the list to school with a parent signature.
Families interested in learning about the FCPS continuum of advanced academic program services and the full time AAP Referral Process should plan to attend our virtual family workshop Wednesday, September 9th at 7:00 PM.

Would you like to be part of the WFES Green Team? We will have our first meeting Monday, September 14th from 3:30-4:30 pm. All students, parents and guardians are welcome. If you plan to have your child attend, please inform their teacher about this change to their dismissal. After the meeting, children will be released to door #1.
Our mission is to encourage student driven environmental stewardship through hands-on activities in our school and community. These activities might include reducing waste, conserving energy, planting and maintaining wildlife habitats or tending to gardens. K-3 students are encouraged to be accompanied by an adult. Families can now easily grant permission for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account and parents can easily opt in or opt out their child from a variety of resources including online educational tools, school counseling services, tutoring services, and how student information is managed.

The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 6 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available in Parent Digital Consent. Paper opt-out forms are available from your child’s school. Students receiving special education services and accessing modified curriculum will receive a printed opt-out form for modified FLE lessons.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) , Middle School (7-8) , and High School (9-12). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media). Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Family and School Partnerships
➡️🆕Early Literacy and HIPPY (Registration Open)
Family and School Partnerships offers two free programs for families with young children. The programs have different formats, but both help families support their children’s early learning and school readiness. Both begin in October, and eligible families are encouraged to participate in both.
Early Literacy is an interactive program for parents or caregivers and children ages 2 to 5 to attend together. Families meet twice a week for two hours to enjoy stories, songs, crafts, and discussions about supporting children’s learning. Programs are organized around four cultural/linguistic affinity groups: African Heritage, Arabic, Hispanic, and Korean and families of all backgrounds are welcome.
HIPPY, or Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters, uses a parent coaching model that provides parents/caregivers the tools to work with their child at home. It is a curriculum designed for parents of 2 to 4-year-olds. Parents meet with their instructor in small groups at several locations across FCPS for 1 hour per week.

Eligibility:Children must be 2 years old by September 30, 2026. HIPPY is for children ages 2 to 4, and Early Literacy is for children ages 2 to 5.
