Please forgive the slightly longer Paw Prints over these first couple of weeks! There is always an incredible amount of information to share as we kick off a new academic year, and I appreciate your patience as we ensure everyone stays connected and informed.
First, I want to express my deep gratitude and praise for our staff. Their dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm over the past week transformed our halls into vibrant, welcoming learning spaces. From setting up engaging classrooms to crafting thoughtful lessons, their hard work set the tone for a fantastic year ahead. Bravo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
A special thank you goes out to our incredible PTA for their support. Events like Wolftrap Under the Stars reminded us all what a wonderful community we have, and your ongoing efforts make a difference for our students and school as a whole.
Looking ahead, we invite you to join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 1st. Please note that this is an adult-only event designed to help you connect with teachers and learn more about your child’s learning journey this year. To help accommodate families with multiple children, we will host two identical classroom presentations.

🖤❤️Madison High School County Fair and first football game! Thursday, September 3rd is the first Madison High School Football game and County Fair! Tickets include Fair and Game Entry: Adult 7$ and Child 5$. Dr. Grove will be doing time in the splash tower. Come on by and douse her with water! Remember that football game attendance this year requires passage through weapons detection. 💦💦🤽🏻
🚌🚌Student ID Cards for Wolftrap Bus Riders: We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services, this week. We will be reaching out to you, as we will provide students with their cards. ID cards should be worn or attached to your child’s backpack and brought to the bus each day. We will hold them during the day, then return them to students for their bus trip home.
Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays. Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.

Walking Wednesdays: Join the Walking Wednesday crew each week (weather dependent). Kids sign their names and grab a charm. How many charms can they collect?!?! The grade with the most signatures each month wins the coveted golden shoe. Adults, be sure to join in for coffee sponsored by Caffe Amouri and mingle with other parents!

✔️✔️Understanding the SR&R Process: A Message for Families: School is a critical time for children to learn both academics and social skills. Part of growing up means occasionally making mistakes. When a student's actions conflict with our Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) guidelines, our primary goal is to help them learn, determine what needs to be done to make things right, and grow from the experience. We believe that discipline is about intervention, learning, and support.
Why We Document: Transparency, Equity, and Support
Sometimes parents ask us to not enter a disciplinary incident into the Student Information System (SIS). While we always want to work collaboratively with you, division regulation requires that all SR&R incidents be logged into the Student Information System (SIS). Documenting these incidents is about ensuring every student is safe, supported, and included.
We are required to enter this data to:

Ensure Fairness: Documenting incidents ensures that all students are treated with consistency across the division.

Track Supports: It helps our counselors, teachers, and administrators see if a student might need extra support, such as social emotional skills groups, restorative community connection, or mentoring. Not only does it allow us to be able to identify appropriate supports, the SR&R requires that we provide these preventive and intervening resources to students. The SR&R states, "Whenever a student commits a reportable incident named in the regulation, the student shall be required to participate in prevention and intervention activities as deemed appropriate by the referring administrator" (p. 20).

Comply with District Policy: The SR&R mandates that "When issuing a disciplinary response [. . .] the referring administrator shall enter the disciplinary incident into SIS and shall notify the parent... within 24 hours" (p. 34). School administrators do not have the authority to bypass this regulation.

Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources: Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6
New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.
- If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
- If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.
Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.

September is Attendance Awareness Month! Want your child to succeed in school, and in life? 📚 It starts with showing up. Daily routines at home help students build the academic skills and real-world habits they need to thrive. Here's how you can help:- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine- Pack bags and pick outfits the night before- Talk through any school worries with a teacher, school counselor, or other parents- Make a backup plan for getting to school if something comes up- Schedule trips and appointments outside school hours when possible
