 The playground is officially open! Students do best when they know what the expectations are. We spent the week learning how to be safe, respectful and responsible on the playground. Teachers worked with students to play community games and teach routines such as lining up. Have fun, Foxes!

A Message from Ms. Consolla
What a marvelous first week of school! Walking through the hallways and visiting classrooms over the past few days, my heart has been full seeing our students reconnect with friends, greet their teachers, and jump headfirst into learning. The energy, smiles, and enthusiasm across our building have set a wonderful tone for the year ahead.
Our main focus this week was building strong classroom communities and establishing safe, predictable routines. The students did a fantastic job learning their daily schedules, navigating the cafeteria, and practicing respectful hallway transitions. A huge shout out to our amazing teachers for all the hard work they put in this week to practice, practice, practice! We also successfully completed our very first fire drill of the school year. Our Foxes listened so carefully, followed instructions quickly, and exited the building with great responsibility.
Safety is always our highest priority at Fort Hunt. To ensure everyone feels confident and prepared, we will continue practicing our routine safety procedures in the coming weeks. Students will participate in a tornado drill, a lockdown drill, and another fire drill. We always talk through these exercises with gentle, reassuring language so our children feel safe and empowered rather than overwhelmed. Please note that our kindergartners will not participate in the lockdown drill, as they are still getting adjusted to school.
Looking ahead, please mark your calendar for Back to School Night this coming Wednesday, September 2 at 6:00pm. This is an essential evening to connect with your child’s teacher, learn about classroom expectations, and discover how we can partner together to support your child's academic and growth this year. Additional details regarding specific session times can be found below this message.

Reminder: No school on Friday, Sept 4 & Monday Sept 7
All FCPS schools including Fort Hunt will be closed on Friday and Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Stay safe, Foxes! We will see everyone back at school on Tuesday, September 8.

🏫Back to School Night
Back to School Night will be on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:00 pm. This event is designed for parents only. If parents cannot secure childcare, their child must remain with them and have a quiet activity regardless of age.
There will be FOUR sessions offered to accommodate families with multiple children (see schedule below). Your child's AM teacher will present twice, and your child's PM teacher will also present twice. Back-to-School Night is a wonderful way to get to know your child’s teacher and learn about the classroom expectations and grade-level curriculum. We hope you will be able to join us! There will be limited parking available that night, so please consider walking if you are able.

We'll gather in the cafeteria for a message from Ms. Consolla and our PTA. Specialist teachers will be in the main hallway hosting their own information tables.

School Picture Day is Coming SOON: Tuesday, Sept 8
Please check your Wednesday folder for information about our upcoming Picture Day on Tuesday, September 8. It will be right as we return from Labor Day. Don't forget your smile!

💕New this year: Windows, Mirrors & Doors
Windows represent the opportunities we have to learn about different cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Mirrors represent the ability to see yourself and feel valued. It gives the viewer a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent the opportunity to enter and engage with another culture for a moment in time.
September 15-October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. If you and/or your family came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America, you are invited to bring in photos of you, your family, small artifacts and/or books. Astrid Mendez, our new Family Liaison, will work with you to create any descriptive labels you’d like to add. She can be reached at almendez@fcps.edu
Are you working your way through back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.
- Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in ParentVUE. To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
- Submit daylong absences by clicking “Report Absence.”
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact Rosa Dobarco (rrdobarco@fcps.edu) for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage.
⌚Updates Regarding Smart Watches
Starting this school year, students may only use FCPS-issued devices for school-related digital activities during the instructional day. This is in accordance with a new School Board requirement, approved on July 16, which states that students may not use personal electronic communication or computing devices, including personal laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, and similar devices.
This means that smartwatches, even if they are on the "school" setting, cannot be worn once students enter the building. They must be off and away until they leave at dismissal.
Students may only use a personal device if it is required as part of a necessary accommodation in the students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan. A principal or the principal’s designee may approve a limited, course-specific exception for students enrolled in a specialized class when the curriculum requires a technology tool or software that isn’t available on a standard FCPS-issued device.
Families can help support this requirement by reminding students to bring their FCPS-issued device each day and use it for all school-related digital activities unless an approved exception applies. If parents need to reach their child during the day, please call our front office. Visit the FCPS cellphone policy webpage for more information.
Birthdays at Fort Hunt
Birthdays are a special day for children. Our PTA recognizes every child at the monthly Birthday Books & Cupcakes. Each child picks out a book to take home and a cupcake to enjoy at lunch.
Do not sent in any cupcakes, treats or items to pass out. Thank you!

Toys, Fidgets, Stuffies... Stay at Home
If your child has an accommodation for the use of a fidget in their IEP or 504 plan, we will provide a fidget for them. All toys, fidgets, stuffed animals, squishies, pop-its etc., need to stay at home even if they're small. Thank you for ensuring your student complies with this.

We are PET-Free on Our Campus
As a reminder, all FCPS campuses, including Fort Hunt, do not allow pets at any time or day of the week. This includes drop-off and afterschool pick-up. It's fine to wait up on the sidewalk on Linton Lane with your pet. This rule is in place to ensure all students feel safe and to keep our grounds clean. Thank you!

Get Involved with your PTA
Consider becoming a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Fort Hunt. It's a great way to connect with other parents, learn about how to support your child and to have fun at their amazing community events! There are many ways where you can share your voice, talents and time. Everyone working together makes this a great community. Check out the PTA website for more information.

It's available with translations. Click here to access it. Of course, if you have a question about a situation that is not listed, reach out to your child's teacher or an administrator.

We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone.
