Back to School Night, Grades K-6
Back to School Night is an important event where families learn information to best support children academically and social-emotionally. This Wednesday, September 2, Clearview’s doors will open at 5:50 PM. The first session will run from 6:00 - 6:50 PM and the second session, for those of you with more than one child, will run from 7:00 - 7:50 PM.
Parents selecting to ride the bus can meet at Berkdale Apartments beginning at 5:30. Upon conclusion of Back to School Night the bus is scheduled to depart Clearview ES at 8:00 PM.
First Friday
Students and staff are invited to come to school wearing college or career clothing on the First Friday each month! Our initial First Friday will be on September 11. By introducing college and career concepts early on, we encourage students to think critically about their interests, skills, and values while inspiring them to reach their full potential. College and career exploration supports a variety of areas:
- Confidence: A sense of direction can boost students' confidence and self-esteem.
- Relevance: Understanding how education connects to real-world careers can make learning more meaningful and engaging.
- Long-Term Perspective: Students can begin to envision the future and set goals.
- Motivation: Seeing the practical applications of education can inspire students to put forth effort to achieve their goals.
After School Clubs
We are happy to share this news: Again this fall, we will be offering after school clubs to students in grades 1-6. (Kindergarten students will have opportunities in the spring.) After school clubs will be held on Wednesdays October 7- December 9. Clubs will not be held on November 18 since it is an Early Release Wednesday (ERW). All clubs minus Healthy Plate end at 5:25 PM. Healthy Plate ends at 4:45 PM.
Different clubs have different selection criteria depending on the club sponsor and/or funding source stipulation(s); meaning, students are selected via lottery for some clubs while others have a different selection process. Selection is via lottery whenever possible.
Super Snacks and Bus transportation are available to all clubs minus Healthy Plate. Make sure to check the Tuesday folder on September 1 for an Interest Form/Permission Slip. The Interest Form/Permission Slip is due to Clearview by September 8.

Therapy Dogs
Great news: Do you remember Clearview’s Therapy Dogs, Max (who visits in a stroller) and Gracie? Each will be paying a visit to Clearview monthly to visit with students and staff. Please contact Assistant Principal, Rachel Charlton, via Talking Points, with any questions.
Advanced Academic Programs
Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K to 12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:
- Fall identification: Students in grades 3 to 7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15.
- Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2 to 7 may be referred by December 15.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services:
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3 to 6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
- Students in Grades 3 to 6 may retake an ability test one time. ***Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Joshua Redford, school testing coordinator, via Talking Points by September 30.
Families are invited to attend two AAP information meetings led by Holly Hill, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART):

AAP Continuum of Services: September 16, at 9:00 AM in the cafeteria. Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS students.

Full-Time AAP Identification: October 21, at 6:00 PM in the library. Families will learn about the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.

Herndon High School Dance Team
Herndon High School Dance Team Fall Dance Clinic will be held beginning
Saturday August 29, 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM at the high school. Dance Team is open to students in grades 1-8 for $60. Join the Herndon High School Dance Team and perform at the varsity football game on September 3. Click here to register.
Transportation Patience and Safety
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year.
We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures. To keep students safe, we ask that you refrain from passing the line of cars and put your car in park while you wait.
Thank you for being patient while waiting for your child’s bus. If your child’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-249-7100 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

Labor Day
Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we
remember and honor the victims, families, heroes, and survivors of 9/11, and the courage and determination of our nation's first responders.

With the upcoming 25th anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. Middle and high school students can learn more about service learning by logging into their Naviance account to access x2VOL.

Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, September 11. That day is an evening-only observance day. |

 Clearview Chess Club: Silver Knight’s Chess Academy is hosting the PTA sponsored Clearview Chess Club before school for students in grades 2-6 from October 2-November 20, 7:35- 8:35 AM. Flyers will be sent home via September 1 Tuesday folders. Two full needs-based scholarships are available. Transportation will not be provided.
