Dear Justice Community,
What an incredible first week of school!
From the moment students entered our building, it was clear that something special was happening at Justice High School. Our hallways were filled with energy, excitement, and, most importantly, joy. Across the school, we saw students engaged in classrooms, reconnecting with friends, building new relationships, and embracing the opportunities that a new school year brings.
We are incredibly proud of our students. They have demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm, resilience, and a willingness to be part of our school community. Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to create welcoming classrooms, establish meaningful connections, and set the stage for a successful year of learning and growth.
The excitement of this first week is only the beginning. We look forward to continuing to partner with our students and families throughout the year as we grow together and make Justice a place where everyone belongs and thrives.
We are also excited to welcome families to Back to School Night this Wednesday, September 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. We hope you will join us to learn more about your student’s experience, connect with teachers and staff, and become an even greater part of the Justice community.

This school year we will host Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm at Justice High School. From 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm, you may buy Justice gear, buy athletic event Pack Passes, sign up to become a member of the PTSA, learn about Title I, and meet our different school support personnel, including our parent liaisons and technology team.
We also invite our families to a general information session from 5:45-6:15pm on Justice HS, our Title 1 programming, and general information about our amazing school and community.
The main program begins at 6:30 pm and runs until approximately 8:30pm. During this time, families will be able to rotate through their student’s schedule and meet each of their teachers by period. We look forward to seeing you at Justice High School’s Back To School Night!
The Wolf Shack, the PTSA-sponsored in-school food and resource pantry, opens for students September 2nd! In the Wolf Shack, we provide FREE essential resources for ALL Justice students - from after-school snacks to food and fresh produce for home to personal toiletries to clothing to academic supplies.
Our Wolf Shack volunteers support over 1,500 student visits a month during weekly open hours on Wednesdays & Thursdays (Room B27 by the Little Theater). The Wolf Shack can also be accessed anytime for emergent needs through teachers, social workers, family liaisons and counselors.
The need for food and resource support has continued to increase in our community. The Wolf Shack is fully dependent upon the financial and in-kind donation support of our partners, families, staff and community. Please help us ensure that all Justice students have the food and resources they need. We are asking you to consider supporting The Wolf Shack in any of the following ways:
- Make a financial donation which allows us to fill urgent needs (jhsptsa.org/wolfshackfund)
- Become a Food for Neighbors Red Bag Donor to donate easily throughout the school year (SEE BELOW! https://www.foodforneighbors.org/red-bag-program/)

Class of 2027 students need to schedule senior portraits. Families can visit http://cady.com/schedule to book a session today. More information about booking your session can be found in the Senior Portrait Booking Flyer.
Families can choose to visit the CADY portrait studio in Herndon, VA or sign up for a session hosted at Justice HS. The two remaining Justice sessions will be on September 9th and November 18th from 9:30am-6:00pm in the Little Theater.

We will be distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services.
We will be distributing cards during our class meetings this week and next week.
ID cards should be worn or attached to your child’s backpack and brought to the bus each day.
Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Are you working your way through back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.
- Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in ParentVUE. To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
- Submit daylong absences by clicking “Report Absence.”
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact your child’s school for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage.
Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6
New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.
- If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
- If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.
Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your child’s bus.
If your child’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2050 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

It’s the final stretch Senior Parents! We are looking for parents of seniors to STEP up to volunteer at least one time this year! Look at our new website www.justicehsptsa.org for upcoming opportunities. We are looking for a cohort of at least 20 parents to spearhead senior-focused events like Senior Sunrise on August 24th at 7am and All Night Grad Party.

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community and around the world? The Fairfax Global Leaders Fellowship is now accepting applications for the Class of 2027!
Students must:
- Be a Fairfax County resident or attend Fairfax County Public Schools.
- Be a rising high school senior (Class of 2027).
- Have a minimum 3.5 GPA.
Before applying, please have your resume (.doc or .pdf) and high school transcript (.doc or .pdf) ready to upload. Students will also answer several short questions as part of the application.
There is no cost to apply. Students admitted to the program pay a one-time $75 administrative fee to support program expenses. The fee will be waived for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals or who are experiencing financial hardship.
To apply, complete the Global Leaders Fellowship Application Form by Tuesday, September 1, at 11:59 p.m. (You must use a personal Gmail account to apply.)

FCPS high schools will give the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) to 10th and 11th graders on Wednesday, October 7. That same day, 12th graders will participate in SAT School Day.
Because these exams are operated by the College Board, students do not automatically receive testing accommodations or multilingual support. Families can view Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about College Board accommodations on the FCPS website.
If you have a student with disabilities in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade this school year, please review the accommodations request process and return forms to the high school by Monday, August 3.
If you have a multilingual learner (ML) in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade this school year, please review the ML support request process and return forms by Thursday, August 27, if you wish to request ML support for the October 2026 PSAT/NMSQT or SAT School Day.

SEL Screener Parent/Guardian Notification
The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
Labor Day
Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
September 11 National Day of Service
With the upcoming 25th anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. Middle and high school students can learn more about service learning by logging into their Naviance account to access x2VOL.
Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, September 11. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.

What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse
FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.
What can families do?
- Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
- Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
- Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage.
- Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
- Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”

Varsity Tutors Provides On-Demand Support at No Cost
Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors’ services at no cost, including weekly live online classes; on-demand 24/7 chat tutoring; essay editing; and study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests. Learn more about online tutoring with Varsity Tutors.
No-Cost Mental Online Therapy for All High School Students
Is your student experiencing anxiety, behavior changes, or challenges with peer and family relationships? Do they seem withdrawn or uninterested in their usual hobbies?
Parents/caregivers can refer their children for free weekly therapy with a licensed therapist through Hazel Health. Visit the FCPS’ Teletherapy webpage for information about this service.
Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health
Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:
- Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
- Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
- Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
- Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
- A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
- Alcohol or drug use.
- Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
- Thoughts of harming themselves or others.
If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. Please contact your child's school counselor to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Find additional ways to support your child’s wellness.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.
