Chesterbrook Monarch Butterflies Hatching Watch
This is the second year our pond courtyard has produced milkweed that is attracting the monarch caterpillars and we have produced a huge harvest. When you visit us soon you can view the life cycle in action. Students have been able to see each stage as the caterpillars eat the milkweed, crawl to the top where they build their silk pad and hang upside down in the shape of a letter "J." We look forward to watching our butterflies emerge!
Principal's Message
Dear Chesterbrook Families,
Happy September! ur students are settling into the second week of school and upper grades are now rotating to their content classes across their day. Students have done a great job embracing the new school year, making friends and the best of all so many shared they are ready for the learning to come.
We look forward to seeing parents at Back to School Night next Wednesday evening, September 9th. Our partnership is an instrumental piece in your child's growth this school year. We also hope you will consider joining our PTA and supporting our school this year.
Teachers in 3rd through 6th grades have worked to support students in setting up materials in their new binders. Second graders will be setting up their binders later in the year. Throughout this school year we will be explicitly working on executive function skills to help support organization and independence. The colors of folders in our binders and overall structure are the same across the school. As students come home, complete homework and ready their materials for the next day, please have them be a part of the home organization of their materials. A home checklist may help develop those healthy habits.
We hope your children have had a wonderful start to the year and with your partnership, we look forward to watching them shine!

SR&R Acknoweldgement
Families are encouraged to review the updated FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document, which explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses in order to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Updates for the 2026-27 school year include new Universal Grade Matrices (UGMs). UGMs are charts that show behavior expectations and school responses by grade level (K-3, 4-8, and 9-12). These at-a-glance resources (in Appendix D of the SR&R) are designed to make it easier for parents and caregivers to understand how schools respond to different types of behavior concerns.

Wait Until 8 at Chesterbrook ES
Smartphones changed childhood almost overnight. As phones and social media took over, anxiety, depression, and loneliness among kids climbed sharply — crowding out sleep, focus, outdoor play, and in-person friendships.
Wait Until 8th is a simple, free pledge to hold off on giving your child a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. (Basic phones and GPS watches are a great alternative.)
The movement is taking off across McLean. The FCPS School Board unanimously passed a resolution encouraging families to delay smartphones for non-essential use until high school, and all five pyramid elementary schools have activated the pledge — more than 400 families across the McLean pyramid have signed on so far.
Chesterbrook Elementary has played a big role in the WU8 Movement’s success: last spring, 124 Chesterbrook families signed the pledge.

Celebrate McLean

It will run from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at the McLean HS practice football field, prior to our football home opener vs Falls Church. We will have games, food, DJ and tables from our clubs and sports. We look forward to another amazing day!

At the Dance Clinic, you will learn exciting dance techniques and choreography, a fun dance routine, play games, and get to know the team! You’ll then have the opportunity to perform the fun dance routine during the half-time festivities at Friday night’s Home Football Game with the McLean Dance Team! It’ll be a memorable experience!
