Message from Mr. Greata
Dear Woodson Community,
We had a fantastic first week of school, and it was wonderful having our students back in the building! As we get into the swing of things, we are thrilled for Pyramid Night this Thursday, September 3. This event, hosted by our Sports Leadership students, is fun for the whole family, with games, moon bounces, and the annual run across the football field prior to the game. Before the field run, we are excited to be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for our brand-new scoreboard. A huge thank you to our Athletic Boosters for their incredible support with the selection and purchase of the new scoreboard, which will be a fixture of Pat Cunningham Stadium for years to come!
Thursday will be an action-packed evening starting with the Cav Carnival at 4:30 PM, followed by the pre-game ceremony, the home football game, and a student dance after the game. Please note that we are introducing weapon screening at football games this season. Because the Cav Carnival serves as the entry point into the stadium, all attendees will be screened upon arrival starting at 4:30 PM. The evening will extend well past 9:00 PM, and plenty of concessions and water will be available for purchase. Please keep in mind that once you enter the carnival and stadium area, re-entry is not permitted if you leave. You can find full details on allowed stadium items later in this weekly email.
We also have home games for field hockey and girls volleyball this week, so come out and support our teams! As always, you can check full athletic schedules at woodsonsports.com.
ALERT: Schedule Change Request Window
For any student wishing to request a class change, the schedule change request form will be posted to the "All Students" Schoology group bright and early next Tuesday morning, September 8, at 7:30 AM. Requests will be considered strictly on a first-come, first-served basis and depend on class seat availability.

Cavalier Come Back Kit
Time flies! Summer is wrapping up, and we are getting ready for the first day of school! The Cavalier Come Back Kit for the new year is being updated as we type. Keeping checking back over the next few weeks.
Checking out early?
The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to the Attendance Office in the morning!
Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them, making sending a note the quickest option!
For emergencies or last-minute appointments, you can also call the 24-hour attendance line at 703-503-4800 and leave a message.
Important Reminders:
-
Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.
-
If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the attendance office. Please ask your child to go to the clinic if they are not feeling well.

Student Services

If your children qualify for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM), they may also be eligible for:
-
Waive student course fees, reduced student parking pass, and waive senior fees.
-
Information about scholarships, classes, and services from non-FCPS agencies and organizations.
To receive these additional benefits, you must give written consent allowing FCPS staff to share your children's meal eligibility status with administrators, school counselors and the school's finance technician. This information will not be shared with any other parties.
The Consent to Share is available here in multiple languages. Copies are available in Student Services, as well.
Families who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost for their children. This includes more than one-third of FCPS students. Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM) application before the start of each school year.
The application for FRM is now available for the 2026-27 school year. Students who were approved for FRM last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should reapply as soon as possible so eligible children continue to receive meals at no cost.
Access the application and view criteria and up-to-date information on the FRM webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.
Counselor Corner
Welcome back to school! Counselors have been working hard to settle students into classes, enroll new families, and prepare for another successful year. Bookmark our Woodson Student Services padlet to access all of our resources. To highlight a few padlets: grade-level padlets with curriculum lessons and post-secondary planning resources, academic support padlet, social/emotional Support padlet with wellness resources. With the removal of phone access, students may want to bookmark our Woodson Wellness site to utilize brain breaks when appropriate during class time.
During Returns on 8/28 and 9/1, counselors delivered our Senior Lesson to review all important aspects of navigating senior year. Highlights include the Senior Year Road Map and College Application Checklist. Additionally we hosted Senior Information Night on 8/27, beginning with a Mini Fair for non-college options followed by the College Information presentation. We recommend bookmarking the Senior Padlet for helpful resources and documents. Good luck to all!
As students settle into their classes, we acknowledge that some may wish to change electives or move up or down a level. After Labor Day, students may complete a google form, posted in Schoology, with instructions to follow.
Students may see their counselor at any time in Student Services. We provide academic, college & career, and personal counseling as our students navigate high school.
