Roadrunner Roundup

Dear Little Run Families,

We made it! Our students truly thrived in their first week of school. From the moment the doors opened, the energy in our hallways has been contagious. There were huge smiles, high-fives, reunited friends, and only a few tears.

It has been an absolute joy watching our students jump right into new routines. In just five short days, we’ve already seen brilliant questions asked, artwork starting to fill the hallways, and impressive playground games in full swing. If you were wondering why your kids came home exhausted this week, it’s because they poured 100% of their energy into making week one a complete success.

A massive thank-you goes out to our incredible parents and guardians. Thank you for double-checking backpacks, encouraging first-day jitters, and showing immense patience with the transition to school. To our custodians and office staff, thank you for working tirelessly to prepare for our students each day. Special thank you to our wonderful teachers and staff, for pouring so much heart, humor, and hustle into creating such welcoming spaces for our kids.

Over the past 3 months Julia Haywood, has served in the role of Acting Assistant Principal. Julia is a natural leader who inspires, organizes, and gets things done! We are so grateful to have had her support in this role until Alison’s return. Julia will return to her position as Department Chair for Special Education on September 1st. Thank you Julia for all that you do. Alison’s return date will be after Labor Day.

If this first week is any indication of what’s to come, we are in for a phenomenal school year. Enjoy a well-deserved, restful weekend with your families, recharge those batteries, and we’ll see everyone bright and early on Monday morning!

With gratitude and excitement,

Christie Yarn

ACTION ITEM: Parent Digital Consent

Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources

Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Visit the Parent Digital Consent webpage to access the system. Watch this video to see how to use the tool

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6

New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.

  • If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
  • If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.

Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.

ACTION ITEM: Early Release Wednesday

Little Run will release students at 12:15 PM on the following days:

  • September 30
  • November 18
  • January 13
  • April 7

Please note: While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:15 on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare.  These students will be supervised by school-based staff.  No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.

ACTION REQUIRED: Elementary school parents and caregivers should use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to review and provide consent for Early Release Wednesday Childcare. Make sure to scroll to the very bottom for Online Verification Update.

There will be 7 modules you will need to review and/or update before submitting your packet. As you complete each area, use the Previous or Save and Continue buttons at the bottom to navigate between pages. Do not use the browser back and forward buttons. A green check mark means the module is complete. An orange exclamation mark means the module is in progress.

  • OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.
  • OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.
