Dear KJMS Families,
We are excited to share that our opening week of school has gone very well! Our students are settling into routines, building connections with their teachers and classmates, and bringing great energy to the year ahead.
Each grade level participated in a “Welcome Launch” pep rally and team activities, while also reviewing our Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) and recess expectations. It has been wonderful to see our students embracing the new school year and beginning to Ready to Soar!
Thank you for your continued support in helping make this a smooth and positive start to the school year. We look forward to all the learning, growth, and opportunities the year will bring.

Back-to-School Night – Wednesday, September 2, 6:00–7:45 p.m.Back-to-School Night is an opportunity to visit your child’s classrooms and learn more about their courses, expectations, and learning experiences from each of their teachers.

Congratulations to Mrs. Alam and Mrs. Guthrie! We are proud to recognize our science teachers, Mrs. Alam and Mrs. Guthrie, for their leadership in our environmental stewardship programs. KJMS has been recognized as a Virginia Naturally School for our work during the 2025–26 school year! This recognition celebrates schools that demonstrate a commitment to environmental education, stewardship, and sustainability. We are grateful for their leadership and the opportunities they provide for our students.

September 15 & 16
All 7th graders and only 8th graders new to the county will go through the Vision and Hearing Screening. All students will have their picture taken between these two days. Below are the link to sign up to volunteer if you are available.

Eligible 8th grade students who have an aptitude and passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) are encouraged to join us on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 9:30-10:30 am in the KJMS auditorium for a presentation by the TJHSST admissions staff. Families are also welcome and should enter the building through door 1 if they chose to attend.
For information on your 8th grade student’s eligibility status, please visit the TJHSST admissions website at www.fcps.edu/tjadmissions. On this website, you are encouraged to watch the 30-minute video with detailed information.
For eligible 8th grade students that are interested in applying for admission, applications will become available later this fall and official dates will be communicated soon.

Middle school Interscholastic Sports are a great way for students to get active, build friendships, develop teamwork skills, and represent our school! If your student is interested in participating in middle school sports, please review the information below for important next steps, including athletic registration, required sports physicals, eligibility requirements, practice information, and other important details.

KJMS Interscholastic Sports 26-27
Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your child’s bus.
If your child’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at (703) 249-7000 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus delays.
Are you working your way through back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.
- Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in ParentVUE. To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
- Submit daylong absences by clicking “Report Absence.”
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact your child’s school for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage.
The FCPS mobile app lets you follow updates from all your children's schools in one place! Simply open the app, tap the teal pull-down menu, then tap the gear icon and select every school you want to follow. See this video of how to follow your school.
Find out about more features of the app. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected.
A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:
- Your child’s classes.
- Your child’s upcoming assignments.
- School, class, and group announcements.
To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology.
Join Fairfax High School Cheer for Little Lions Night on Thursday, September 3! Cheer alongside our Varsity Cheerleaders, perform at halftime, enjoy pizza, and take home a Little Lions bow. Open to ages 6–12 and just $50 per Little Lion. Registration closes September 2.
