 Good evening, Herndon Elementary Families,
Principal Reflections from the Hive: Growing, Building, and Celebrating Together
The first week of school has been filled with energy, connection, and many meaningful moments across Herndon Elementary.
I am especially excited to watch our first group of sixth-grade students take Algebra 1 this year. This milestone reflects the strength of our instructional program and the opportunities our students have to pursue advanced coursework while still in elementary school. I look forward to seeing their confidence and curiosity grow throughout the year.
Our renovation work also continues to move forward. The new addition is currently anticipated to be completed during the third week of September, with a target move beginning the week of September 14. Construction teams are continuing water line work, parking lot cleanup, kitchen and cafeteria preparations, sidewalk restoration, and safety-related updates. We are grateful for the continued partnership of FCPS Design and Construction Services as we navigate this important transition. We are thrilled to be into our newly renovated cafeteria with the additional bump out, providing our students extra space, lighting, and an improved dining experience. Our new cafeteria tables will arrive next Friday and will be installed over the long weekend while students are out of the building.
This week also brought wonderful support from across FCPS. Central office and Region 1 leaders visited Herndon, walked classrooms, listened to our needs, celebrated our staff, and helped problem-solve alongside us. We are particularly grateful to Dr. Reilly for mobilizing resource teachers to support our school during the first weeks of learning. The Herndon Police Department also helped welcome students and families during arrival, and we are grateful for their partnership.
Finally, we are looking forward to celebrating Herndon spirit at the Herndon Pyramid Mascot Race on Friday evening. One of our student leaders will represent Herndon Elementary, and we are excited to cheer them on as they bring the energy of the Hive to this special community event.
The start of a school year reminds us that growth happens through both big milestones and small, daily acts of care. From Algebra 1 to our renovation progress, from central office partnership to student leadership, there is much to celebrate in our Hive.
What a joyful way to begin another year together. 🐝💛
With gratitude,
Dr. Monika Vereb Principal,

Student ID Cards for Herndon Elementary Bus Riders
We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services.
Teachers will be handing Student ID Cards to student bus riders.
ID cards should be worn or attached to your child’s backpack and brought to the bus each day.
Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.
