Dear Olde Creek Families,

We have had a wonderful first week of school! Our students are learning routines, reconnecting with friends, getting to know their teachers, and settling into the rhythm of a new school year. We are so proud of the way our Bears have embraced the week with enthusiasm and kindness.

We are also excited to welcome Dr. Claire Silva as our acting assistant principal. Dr. Silva will be joining us through Winter Break, and we are grateful to have her support and leadership at Olde Creek.

Please mark your calendars for Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 2. This is an adult-only event, so we kindly ask that children remain at home with a trusted, supervised caregiver. The evening will include:

  • PTA Meeting: 5:15-5:45 p.m.
  • OC Specialists and Community Videos: 5:45-6:05 p.m.
  • Session 1: 6:10-6:45 p.m.
  • Session 2: 6:50-7:20 p.m.

We look forward to welcoming families into the building and sharing more about the exciting year ahead!

Take care,
Courtney and Amita

Clinic News- Vision and Hearing Screening

Vision and hearing screening will be held starting the 3rd week of September for all kindergarten, 3rd graders and students who are new to FCPS. The purpose of screening is to identify students who need further evaluation due to difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones. If your child wears glasses, please be sure that glasses are at school on screening day. Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Health Room at 703-426-3110.

Student ID Cards for Olde Creek Bus Riders

We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services.

ID cards will attached to your child’s backpack for easy tapping.

Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.

💓SEL Screener Parent/Guardian Notification

The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 6 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
