Dear Kings Park Families,
During the opening days of school, students have connected with classmates, practiced daily procedures, and embraced the exciting opportunities that come with a new school year. We love seeing students arrive each morning ready to learn, build relationships, and take on new challenges. Guardians may continue walking students to their classroom door through Friday. It’s promising to see students building confidence and familiarity with their arrival routines.
Consistent attendance helps your child take part in the learning, creativity, and connections that allow every student to shine. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child feel welcome, supported, and prepared for a successful year.

Student ID Cards for Kings Park Bus Riders
Today we have distributed student ID cards to all students who ride a school bus or use FCPS transportation services.
The cards are attached to lanyards and should remain inside your child’s backpack each day. Students will be reminded to place the lanyard in their backpack when they arrive at school and to put it on before boarding the bus at dismissal.
Students should tap their ID cards when boarding and exiting the bus. At this time, only students who use FCPS transportation services will receive an ID card.
We appreciate your patience! Bus drivers will begin checking in students, which may require additional time at each bus stop. The transportation team is working hard to minimize delays.

 Back to School Night - Thursday, September 17th, 5:30pm-7:00pm
Building on the connections made during our Meet and Mingle and Open House events, Kings Park’s Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 17th, from 5:30pm-7:00pm. There will be three, 25-minute sessions. At each session families can choose to visit a homeroom teacher or specialist. Come join us to learn more about our teachers, the school day, and our instructional programming (Preschool - 3rd grade). Also, be sure to watch Kings Park’s Back to School overview, which includes important school information to help you get the most from classroom sessions.

Attendance Matters
Last school year, our community met its Attendance Goal of 7% chronic absenteeism or less, demonstrating what we can accomplish when families and school staff work together. Building on that success, we want to see every bright mind at school each day, ready to learn, create, and shine. To celebrate our progress and keep families informed, we will share attendance data in our weekly newsletter. Together, we can reduce absences and help prevent students from becoming chronically absent.
Chronic absenteeism means missing 10% or more of the school days in a year. This includes both excused and unexcused absences. Students who miss this much school are more likely to fall behind and leave school before graduating.
We care about every student and want each child to succeed. Regular attendance is an important part of that success. Please follow FCPS health guidelines and send your child to school each day they are well enough to attend.

Ways to Submit Attendance at Kings Park
Families may report attendance using one of the following methods:
When reporting a student’s absence, please be specific about why your student will not attend school. If reporting an ill student, include symptoms, especially if they have a fever, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, and/or cough. If your student has a diagnosis from a healthcare provider, please include that information, as well.
Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line
Check out some tips to help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:
- Help your child learn their student ID number to receive meals at school. Student ID numbers can be found in ParentVUE. Students can continue receiving meals with teacher-provided ID cards, as needed.
- Sign up for and add money to MySchoolBucks to purchase meals at school.

Apply for free and reduced-price meals. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should submit a new application as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
If your child has any food allergies, learn how to submit accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens.
Access menus for breakfast, lunch, and other school meals, as well as allergen and nutrition information.

Family Information Line Available in Nine Languages
Parents/caregivers who speak Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, or Vietnamese may call a telephone information line for general information about FCPS. View the list of phone numbers.
Lake Braddock Pyramid Night - Thursday, September 10th, 5:00pm-6:30pm
Lake Braddock will be hosting their annual Pyramid Night on Thursday, September 10th. The event includes fun games and activities like food trucks, music, an obstacle course, bounce houses and a dunk tank from 5:00pm-6:30pm.The first home football game will follow the festival and we hope you will be able to stay and participate. Tickets for the game are available for purchase through eTix, but the festival is free to attend.
We are excited to share that we have the opportunity for 10 KPES students to participate in the “Tunnel Run” to open the football game with a guardian. If you are interested, please complete this form by Thursday, September 3rd. Any students who are randomly chosen will receive one free student and one free guardian ticket.

Join the PTA. We hope all members of the KP/KG community will consider joining the PTA this school year. Being a PTA member has numerous benefits -- it's a great way to meet new friends and become more involved in your child's school and community. Join on our website!

Our first meeting, where we will be approving our budget, is coming up on September 17th at Kings Park at 5:00 pm right before Back to School Night in the cafeteria. Please join us and learn about all the exciting things planned for the year!
Want to help with KP/KG PTA’s biggest fundraiser of the year? The Booster program starts on September 9th and finishes on September 18th with the Fun Run. Mark your calendars and reach out to Sarah Maccubbin-Tremper at vpfund@kpkgpta.org if you want to be involved!
Save the Date! Our popular PTA Ice Cream Social and Community Resource Fair will be held at Kings Glen on September 25th.

Volunteer with the PTA. Volunteering is certainly not a requirement of joining the PTA, but we are always looking for more help! We are looking for some volunteer leads for various positions throughout the year. Check out our openings here.
