Principal's Note
Welcome Back, Panthers!
We are so excited to welcome our students back to Sandburg on Monday, August 24! There is nothing quite like the energy of the first day of school, and our staff is ready to make this an amazing year for our Panthers.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Open House! It was wonderful to see our hallways filled with students and families, reconnect with familiar faces, and welcome so many new members of our Sandburg community. Your excitement and positive energy helped make the event a huge success.
As we begin the year, you will hear us talking a lot about PACE, our shared language for how we learn, grow, and show up for one another at Sandburg:
Perseverance Awareness Character Excellence
PACE will guide our students in making choices that support learning, safety, belonging, and success. Whether in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, or community, we want our Panthers to understand what it means to set the PACE, keep the PACE, and rock the PACE! 🐾
Our goal is to create a school where every student feels welcomed, supported, challenged, and proud to be a Panther. We are looking forward to partnering with you throughout the year and celebrating all that our students will accomplish.
Enjoy the weekend, get those backpacks ready, and we will see our Panthers bright and early Monday morning!
Let’s make it an amazing year, Sandburg! 🐾

Student ID Cards for Sandburg Bus Riders
We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services.
Sandburg will be distributing the IDs to bus riders during their Advisory Periods.
Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.
You Can Manage Student Web Access at Home
Starting Wednesday, 8/26, laptops will begin coming home. Through the Lightspeed Parent Portal, families can monitor internet activity and manage their child’s FCPS device outside of school hours using Schedules and Web Rules.
These new custom controls take effect at home, outside of school hours, and when the device is off the FCPS network. They will not override standard district filtering policies during the instructional day.
Customize Your Lightspeed Settings
All parents should be receiving weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report emails. To set up these new features, click the “Log in or Register” button at the bottom of your weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.
Visit the FCPS Lightspeed Parent Portal Guide for more information. If you have additional questions, submit a Parent Technology Support Ticket.

Updated Cell Phone Policy
Senate Bill 108 is a new Virginia law that went into effect on July 1. It requires that all schools in the state follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy and prohibit cellphone possession and use for the entire school day.
Across all grade levels, cellphones, cellphone accessories, and all smart devices must be off and personally stored for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (like a smartwatch) must be off and personally stored for the duration of the school day, too. Personal devices that connect to a cellphone or cellphone accessory or operate as a smart device must also follow the FCPS Cellphone Policy.
More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage.
