It was wonderful to see so many of you at Open House! We are excited to welcome our students back for the first day of school on Monday!
Here are a few important reminders to help ensure a safe and smooth start to the school year:
We can’t wait to welcome our students back! As we kick off the new school year, here are two quick reminders to help everything run smoothly:
- School doors will open at 9:05 a.m.

On the first day of school only, families are welcome to walk their students into the building. To help our students begin the year with confidence and independence, we kindly ask families to say their goodbyes once inside.

Plan Extra Time: First week drop-off and dismissal, including Kiss and Ride, requires a bit more time while everyone learns the procedures. We appreciate your patience as we work to keep every child safe.

Share Dismissal Plans: Please confirm your child's Day 1 transportation with their teacher. If plans change at any point during the year, notify the main office directly rather than solely informing the teacher. Same day calls for transportation changes, unless an emergency, will need to be made by 3:30pm. This helps us ensure teachers are notified in a timely manner and lessens confusion for students. Clear communication with the office keeps our dismissal process safe and organized.

If you park in the surrounding neighborhood, please park safely and responsibly. Be considerate of our neighbors by ensuring that you do not block driveways, mailboxes, or access to homes.

 We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services.
Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
We ask for your patience! Bus drivers will begin checking in students next week and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

SEL Screener Parent/Guardian Notification
The Spring Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
Family Information Line Available in Nine Languages
Parents/caregivers who speak Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Urdu, or Vietnamese may call a telephone information line for general information about FCPS. View the list of phone numbers.

Get Ready for Day One with the FCPS App! 🎒
As we gear up for the first day of school, make sure you have the FCPS mobile app downloaded! It's the quickest way to check the school year calendar, view lunch and breakfast menus, find school contacts, and jump to ParentVUE or Schoology from your phone.
Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Dates for Early Release Wednesdays
Early Release Wednesdays Beech Tree will have a total of four early release days throughout the school year. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m.
Early release Wednesdays for Beech Tree ES are:
- October 21
- December 2
- February 10
- May 5
👉 Afterschool Form for the 2026–2027 School Year
The start of the school year comes with several important forms that need to be completed for every student. To save time during Open House and the first week of school, we encourage families to log in to SIS ParentVUE and the Parent Digital Consent (PDC) System (same username and password that you use for SIS ParentVue) now and complete as many forms as possible. Many required forms, along with several optional permissions and resources, are available online. We have included a handy Back-to-School Parent Checklist below to help you keep track of everything in one place.

☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Contact our registrar Sandra Merino at email semerino@fcps.edu (703) 531-2600 if you need an activation code. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information! Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) by clicking “My Account” and reviewing the “Online Verification/Update.” On that form, you can also update immunization records, health information, and emergency contacts.
☑️ Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Families need to provide their children with money to purchase meals at school or send them with a packed lunch. Alternatively, families may apply to receive free and reduced-price meal benefits, pending approval.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked blue with an “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked orange with an “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked as TW, SD, and SP and in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
SR&R Updates
Understanding Student Rights and Responsibilities Updates: New Universal Grade Matrices for Families
Families are encouraged to review the updated FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document, which explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses in order to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Updates for the 2026-27 school year include new Universal Grade Matrices (UGMs). UGMs are charts that show behavior expectations and school responses by grade level (K-3, 4-8, and 9-12). These at-a-glance resources (in Appendix D of the SR&R) are designed to make it easier for parents and caregivers to understand how schools respond to different types of behavior concerns.
