Arrival/Dismissal Reminders

Kiss & Ride – Drop-off and pick-up your child without leaving your car. Take the first left as you enter the school property. Drop-off begins at 9am. Students will report to their classrooms (or to the cafeteria if they need to purchase breakfast). After 9:15am, students will need to be brought into the building and checked in at the front office. Kiss & Ride reopens for dismissal at 4pm. You are welcome to arrive a few minutes early to wait in line, although the line typically moves efficiently.

Walkers - At 9am, your child may proceed onto school property and enter the school at the back entrance near the preschool playground (Door 4). If your child arrives after 9:15am, you will need to walk them to the front door. At dismissal, when walkers are dismissed from Door 4, parents of Kindergarten students must meet their student at the door.

Park and Walk - If you are parking and walking your child to the front door, please park by the soccer fields to the right of the school (as you enter) and walk up the hill.

Bus Loop - Do not drive up or attempt to park in the bus loop between the hours of 8:45-9:20am and 3:40-4:15pm. You will get trapped by our buses arriving and will have to wait.

Please do not at any time drop your child off at the front door without coming into the building and checking them in at the front office.

Note: Staff is not available to supervise students at any of these locations before 9am.

Policy for All Grade Levels as of July 1, 2026

Cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices must be off and personally stored (i.e., backpacks) for the duration of the school day: bell to bell. Smart devices include watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other items connected to the internet. Medications

Medications MUST be dropped off at Crossfield by a parent. Do not send your child to school with their medications. Our clinic aide, Ms. Deschene, will be available during Open House to receive medication. 

Authorization for Anaphylaxis Action Plan (SE64) - Required for the administration of epinephrine injection(s) as directed by the licensed prescriber.

FCPS Authorization for Virginia Asthma Action Plan (SE65) - Required for the administration of an inhaler as directed by the licensed prescriber.

Medication Authorization (SE 63) - Required for the administration of over-the-counter and prescription medication, with the exception of epinephrine and inhaled medication, as directed by the licensed prescriber/parent/guardian.

New Menu Platform

MealViewer can be accessed on a computer browser, through the MealViewer app on Android and iPhone, or using any browser on a smartphone. No sign-in or passwords are required to view menus. It is also possible (but not required) to rate food items, star favorite items, view food allergens, use a nutrition calculator, and create a profile.

Power Packs

This year, Crossfield is partnering with Food for Others through their Power Pack Program to supply families in need with some additional food to go home with students for the weekends. The weekend meal packs contain two items each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus two snacks and two drinks. Only Crossfield students are eligible for this program. Please email our social worker, Sarah Goswick, at segoswick@fcps.edu if you would like your child(ren) added to this program.

Special Diets

All dietary accommodation requests will be processed via a centralized process. Any information pertaining to dietary accommodations, including menu communications, requests, etc, will be through dietary.forms.fns@fcps.edu

First Spirit Night of the Year this Thursday!!

Soak up the last of summer, and enjoy some frosty treats with friends and classmates! Join us at the first Spirit Night of the year at Bruster's (3903 Fair Ridge Drive, Fairfax) on Thursday, Aug. 27 from 5:00-8:00pm. Our amazing GUEST SCOOPERS will be: Ms. Apelquist (5-6pm), Ms. Huynh & Ms. Dalton (6-7pm), Ms. NaVarro & Ms. Baaucum (7-8pm). We'll see you there!!

Fall 2026 Before-School Programs—Registration Opens September 1

The Crossfield PTO is excited to launch our Before-School Programs this fall!

This 8-week session meets once a week on Wednesdays from 8:00–9:00am at Crossfield, starting September 23 through November 11, and features the following programs:

• Silver Knights — Chess (grades K–6th)
• Crafty Kids — STEAM-based Crafts (grades K–3rd)
• Sticky Fingers — Cooking (grades K–6th)
• Wize Computing — 3D Design, Modeling & Printing (grades 3rd–6th)

These programs offer students a fun and engaging way to start their day while exploring new interests and activities before school begins.

Kids Run the Nation—Registration Opens September 1

Get ready to run, have fun, build confidence, and cross the finish line! The PTO is excited to bring Crossfield’s Kids Run the Nation (KRTN) team back this fall. The KRTN program is open to girls and boys in grades 2nd–6th. A nationally recognized running program helps kids become stronger, healthier, and more confident through a fun multi-week curriculum—all leading up to an exciting celebratory 5K to wrap up the season!

Registration opens September 1 and is $75, which includes a KRTN team T-shirt, swag, and students 5K race registration. Mark your calendars!

Students in 4^th, 5^th and 6^th grade can be a part of the Crossfield Strings Program. Students will have a choice to learn a strings instrument: Violin, Viola, Cello or Bass. Strings meet once a week, during the school day and is a year-long commitment. Be a part of the Crossfield Orchestra and let’s make music together.

Partnering for Attendance Success

As the school year begins, we want to partner with you to ensure your student stays on track for success! Did you know that missing just 10% of school days (about 2 days a month) for any reason—excused or unexcused—is considered chronic absenteeism and can make learning much harder?

Need Help Getting Your Child to School? Reach Out Early!

Student attendance is reviewed weekly by our School Social Worker. Whatever obstacles your family may face, you don't have to navigate them alone. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, our administrative team, our counselors, or our social worker. We are here to help!

 What You Can Expect:

• 10 Total Absences: A letter will be sent home to share about the importance of attendance.
• 5 Additional Absences: If a student accumulates 5 additional absences after reaching 10, families will be contacted to set up an attendance conference with our Assistant Principal or School Social Worker so we can build a personalized support plan together.

Let’s start the year strong and keep attendance high!
