We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services over the next two weeks.
When students have received their ID cards they should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
We ask for your patience! Bus drivers will begin checking in students next week and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

We are excited to welcome back our returning Jags and to welcome our new Jags to FCHS this school year!
The first week of school will be a week of adjustments for our Jags. Adjustments to sleep habits from the long summer break - going to bed earlier and waking up earlier to get to school on time; learning new class schedules and where all of their classes are located; and meeting new teachers and learning about the new cell phone policy and other changes happening this school year (e.g., new lunch schedules, etc.).
What you can do to help:
- Please help your student feel confident and ready by having them choose their school clothes, pack their backpack and lunch the night before, and get at least 8 hours of sleep. This reassures parents that their support makes a difference in student readiness.
- Wake your student up to get ready for school and to get to the bus stop on time.
- Remind your student drivers to leave early to avoid traffic and parking issues, helping them arrive on time and reduce stress.
- Ask your student about their first day and week of school to show your support and help them feel confident about their experiences and needs in all their classes.
- If there are any problems or concerns, they cannot resolve on their own (e.g., a scheduling conflict or mistake), please encourage your student to speak to their counselor.

Greetings from the Falls Church High School Health Room! We are excited to partner with you to support the health and well-being of your student. Our goal is to help students stay healthy and ready to learn. Health Room services include providing care for sick and injured students in accordance with established guidelines, storing and administering medications, assisting with the management of health conditions, performing hearing and vision screenings as required, and promoting healthy habits.
How you can help!
- Keep your student home when they are sick! You may find additional information on the FCPS Attendance Page.
- Please complete the Health Information and Emergency Care Information forms each school year. You may do this electronically in SISas part of the Online Verification/Update Packet. If you prefer paper versions of these forms, you may find them on the FCPS General Registration Forms
- Please contact the Health Room during the school year if your student has health changes that will impact the school day so we can discuss how to best provide support if needed.
Medications. If medication must be administered during the school day, please follow the guidelines established in the current version of FCPS Regulation 2102.
- If your student will have medication at school, please have their health care provider complete the appropriate FCPS medication authorization forms There are forms for general medications, epinephrine, and inhalers. FCPS is implementing a new Authorization for Seizure Action Plan this year. If your student is diagnosed with epilepsy, please have their healthcare provider complete the form, even if they will not have seizure medication at school.
- Please contact the Health Room at 703-207-4010 to arrange drop off of medications, or medications can be dropped off during Open House on August 20th, 2:00-4:00.
Health Care Procedures. If your student requires a health procedure during the school day, such as G-tube feedings or oxygen administration, please contact the Health Room to discuss the procedure, support needs, and supplies. If applicable, there are Procedure Authorization forms for healthcare providers to complete annually for this purpose.
Special Dietary Needs. If your student buys lunch in the school cafeteria and requires a modified diet, the FCPS Food and Nutrition site provides information about requesting medical dietary accommodations.
Please contact me if your student is participating in a before or after school activity (ie band, sports, clubs) and they have a health condition that might require help from school staff (ie emergency medications, diabetes, health care procedures).

Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Prior to the start of school on Monday, August 24, please submit your child’s immunization documentation. If your child has an appointment to receive their required immunizations after August 24, please submit an Immunization Action Plan to confirm the appointment.
You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form. Please visit the FCPS How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to submit each of these items.
Immunization Events for FCPS Students
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary.
Additional immunization resources are also available.
We acknowledge that parents are our students' first and most important teachers. Parents now have greater control over their child’s FCPS-issued device outside of school hours through Lightspeed Parent Portal.
In addition to monitoring weekly internet activity, parents can now also customize web access at home on FCPS devices through Lightspeed using Schedules and Web Rules.
With Schedules, you can set tailored times to automatically pause or restrict internet access. This makes it easier to enforce rules around homework time, family dinners, weekends, or bedtime.
In Web Rules, you can create Custom Block Lists to block specific, individual websites they do not want your child accessing at home. This allows parents greater control over what is happening online, under their own roof.
These new custom controls take effect at home, outside of school hours, and when the device is off the FCPS network. They will not override standard district filtering policies during the instructional day.
Customize Your Lightspeed Settings
All parents should be receiving weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report emails. To set up these new features, click the “Log in or Register” button at the bottom of your weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.

Parents are encouraged to discuss internet boundaries with their children so that they can understand the reasoning behind any limits and the differences between access at home and at school. Get tips on talking to your children about technology safety.
Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected.
A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:
- Your child’s classes.
- Your child’s upcoming assignments.
- School, class, and group announcements.
To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology.
The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 12 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
Save the Date for our Back to School Night will be in-person the evening of Wednesday, September 9 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Senior Parent Night - a presentation from our Counselors and Terri Markwart - will follow at 7-8:30pm in the Auditiorium. More information to follow.
All drivers on campus are expected to follow all traffic/roadway laws and driving patterns established.
When picking up or dropping off, it is important to adhere to the traffic pattern laid out below. Please do not park in any spot on campus during arrival and dismissal if you are dropping off or picking up.
PLEASE do not drop off your student on Marc Drive because it causes safety issues and impacts traffic flow.
