Roadrunner Rundown
August 17, 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Families
Our staff returned to school today and were welcomed by a delicious breakfast provided by our wonderful PTA! We were fortunate to spend most of the morning learning from Retired Rear Admiral Mike Studeman, author of MIght of the Chain (a great read). Rear Admiral Mike Studeman retired in 2023 as a two-star admiral having served our country for 35 years. He shared powerful life lessons in leadership and how we can cultivate strong leaders across all grade levels. Our theme for this school year, Stronger Together, came from the insights Mike shares in this book.
Student teacher assignments will be released in ParentVUE this Thursday at 6:00 am. Information about setting up or logging on to your ParentVUE account can be found here. Please call the main office on Thursday if you are unable to access this information or if you have not yet set up your account.
We hope to see many of you at our Open House, this Friday, August 21st at the times listed below. We have staggered the times to allow for smaller groups in the classrooms at a time and to minimize challenges with parking.
- Session 1 - 9:00-9:30 am – A - L (alpha last name)
- Session 2 - 9:45-10:15 am – M-Z (alpha last name)
We hope you can come to meet your child’s teacher. You may also bring school supplies to the classroom, medications to our clinic, and cash or checks to the cafeteria for deposit on students’ accounts.
Please enjoy this last week of summer break; we are looking forward to a wonderful school year.
Have a great week.
Much peace,
Matthew Chapman, Toni Nauflett, and Kelly Willis

School Events and Information
Dismissal Packets
All families should receive a white packet in the mail this week with important dismissal information. Please share your child's dismissal plan with the school by completing the Student Transportation Form (orange) and returning the form to your child’s teacher at Open House or send it to school with your child on the first day of school. The transportation department shared bus stops and route numbers with parents in ParentVue last week. It is important that we know the dismissal plan for all students.
First Day of School / Bell Schedule
Our first day of school is Monday, August 24th. The school day begins at 9:20 am and ends at 4:05 pm. Students may enter the building at 9:05 am, allowing time to arrive to classrooms by 9:20 am.

School Supplies
School supply lists can be found on our school website. Supplies can be brought to classrooms during Open House or on the first day of school. Supplies ordered through the PTA will be delivered to classrooms prior to the first day of school.

Meals for Students
Breakfast and lunch are available at school daily. Information about meals, including menus, can be found on the Food and Nutrition Services website. The menu for our school can be found here.
There are three ways to purchase meals: online, check or cash.
-
MySchoolBucks This user-friendly online service is free, convenient, private and secure. Once the account is open, parents can check the fund account at any time. This account can also be used to submit payment electronically for other fees which may be incurred during your student’s time in FCPS (i.e., field trips, classroom funds, yearbook, and other school activities, etc.)
- Make checks payable to Marshall Road Food Services. The check can be provided to the food service manager or the school office. A local address and phone number are required to be printed or handwritten on the check. The student name and ID number are required on the check memo line.
-
Cash may be brought to the food service manager’s office for deposit on the student's account, or students may pay cash on a daily basis.
-
Application for the Free and Reduced Meal Program is available online. Families must submit a Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2026 -2027 school year. Interested families are encouraged to submit their application before the first day of school. Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.
