Welcome back, Sunrise Valley families!

There is something special about seeing Sunrise Valley come back to life after the summer, and Open House was the perfect start to a new school year! It was wonderful to see students reconnecting with friends, meeting their teachers, exploring their classrooms, and filling our hallways with energy once again. We hope you had a chance to head outside for a popsicle, some play, and time to connect with other families, hosted by our wonderful Sunrise Valley PTA. Strong partnerships like this are at the heart of our Sunrise Valley community!

This weekly newsletter will keep you connected to important school information, upcoming events, and highlights from across our community. Be on the lookout for it each Sunday morning around 8:00 a.m.

As we head into our first day of school on Monday, this weekend is a great time to start shifting back into school mode, earlier bedtimes, backpacks ready to go, and maybe a few extra reminders about those morning routines! We know the first day can bring a mix of excitement, nerves, and everything in between, and our team is ready to welcome each student.

On Monday morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m., families are welcome to walk students to their classrooms. At 9:20 a.m., classroom doors will close and our teachers and students will begin building the routines, relationships, and classroom communities that will set the foundation for a successful year.

Once students are settled, parents and guardians are invited to join our PTA in the cafeteria for our Welcome Breakfast. It’s a great opportunity to meet other Sunrise Valley families and celebrate the start of another year together.

We are ready, excited, and looking forward to a wonderful year ahead. See you tomorrow, Sunrise Valley!

🚌 Transportation Patience and Safety

As we kick off the school year, please anticipate bus delays during the first few weeks. Drivers are learning their routes and adjusting to new routines, just like our students! We recommend arriving at the bus stop a few minutes earlier than the scheduled time. As routes settle and timing becomes more consistent, you can expect a more predictable schedule. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and patience as everyone gets into the swing of things.

If your child’s bus is delayed, there are several ways to stay informed:

  • Visit the Bus Delay Notification System
  • Use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app for real-time bus tracking
  • Look for email messages regarding significant delays

Need help? 📞 Transportation Office: 703-249-7100 🌙 After-hours (after 5:30 p.m.): Safety and Security at 571-423-2000

To make sure you receive all notifications, please ensure your contact information is current in SIS ParentVUE.

PTA

Call for Donations: Help us make it a great year at Sunrise Valley!

We have lots of fun PTA programs, events, and activities planned for Sunrise Valley students and families this year, and we also want to make sure our incredible teachers and staff feel appreciated and supported along the way.

The PTA’s work throughout the year is made possible by our community. If you’d like to help us make these experiences possible, please consider making a donation to the PTA. Every contribution helps us support our students, celebrate our staff, and bring our school community together.

We’ll be sharing more specific opportunities to become a member, volunteer, and contribute throughout the year, but if you’d like to support the PTA now, we’d be grateful for your help!

New Student ID Cards and Bus Navigation System

FCPS is launching a new bus navigation system, which includes student ID cards for students who ride the bus. Students will use the cards to tap on and off the bus, helping FCPS and families know exactly which students are riding which buses.

Learn more about the new system and how it will improve route efficiency, safety, and transparency with families. Check out the frequently asked questions for families. We will inform all SVES families when Student ID Cards have been distributed for use.
