  • Make a backup plan for getting to school in case of an unexpected event.

Building a Brighter Future, Together:

FCPS Family Academy

The FCPS Family Academy is where families can learn and get support for their child’s school journey.

We know that parents and caregivers are critically important in their child’s education. The Family Academy lists classes, webinars, workshops, and programs offered by FCPS to help you support your child's needs and learning at home. The Family Academy also includes information about resources available to help every family ensure their child has what they need to succeed.

Visit the Family Academy webpage. Check out its catalog for upcoming classes, workshops, and webinars to help families learn about FCPS, parenting, early literacy, and how to partner with schools.

📲All Your FCPS Links in One Spot📲

There are a lot of school and FCPS webpages to bookmark, but the FCPS mobile app serves as your central hub!

Check daily meal menus and calendars with no login required, or use one-tap quick links to launch SIS ParentVUE, Schoology, and MySchoolBucks.

Download the FCPS mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

New ParentVUE Mobile App

A new ParentVUE mobile app will become available in the Apple and Google app stores. This new app provides parents and caregivers with a more secure sign-in. The current “classic” app will remain active for about six months. Families must download the new app by December 2026 to ensure they have continued mobile access to their child’s school data.

In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. While enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature.

Learn more about installing the new ParentVUE app. Parents needing assistance should submit a Parent Support Request.

💉Back-to-School Immunization💉 Requirements

Make sure your child has all of their required immunizations before the first day of school. Check their immunization records to see what they might be missing. You can:

Review school-required immunizations to verify that your child is up to date.

🪪New Student ID Cards and🪪

BusNavigation System

FCPS is launching a new bus navigation system, which includes student ID cards for students who ride the bus. Students will use the cards to tap on and off the bus, helping FCPS and families know exactly which students are riding which buses.

Learn more about the new system and how it will improve route efficiency, safety, and transparency with families. Check out the frequently asked questions for families

New Student Device Requirement

Starting this school year, students may only use FCPS-issued devices for school-related digital activities during the instructional day. This is in accordance with a new School Board requirement, approved on July 16, which states that students may not use personal electronic communication or computing devices, including personal laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, and similar devices.

Students may only use a personal device if it is required as part of a necessary accommodation in their Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan. A principal or the principal’s designee may approve a limited, course-specific exception for students enrolled in a specialized class when the curriculum requires a technology tool or software that isn’t available on a standard FCPS-issued device.

Families can help support this requirement by reminding students to bring their FCPS-issued device each day and use it for all school-related digital activities unless an approved exception applies.

Early Release Wednesdays

This year, there will be four Early Release Wednesdays (ERW). The dates are assigned by FCPS for each pyramid. The elementary schools in the Herndon Pyramid will have their ERW on the following dates:

  • ERW 1 - September 30
  • ERW 2 - November 18
  • ERW 3 - January 13
  • ERW 4 - April 7

Like last year, students will have the opportunity to remain at Clearview until the regular dismissal time or will be dismissed at 12:35 PM.

Parents and caregivers may use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to confirm whether or not child care on the four early release Wednesdays will be needed. If your plans change during the school year, please notify your child’s school directly.

Parents and caregivers also have the option to submit their child care selection for early release Wednesdays via a paper form.

✅Attendance✅

Want your child to succeed in school, and in life? 📚 Regular school attendance is the first step to thriving academically, and parents play a crucial role in making every day count.

Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school — and themselves. See our tips on how to encourage positive school attendance in elementary school: https://bit.ly/3TP2gdB

When should you keep your child home from school? Attendance is critical for student success, but if a child is ill, it may be best to keep them home. See our suggestions for when a sick child should stay home: https://bit.ly/3qoiahm

Labor Day

Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.
