Dear Franconia Neighbors and Friends,

The start of a new school year is always one of my favorite times of year. Over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to attend the Leadership Kickoff, Equity Symposium, Great Beginnings, and Clermont Woods’ National Community Night Out. Each event gave me the chance to connect with teachers, administrators, students, and families and to experience the energy, care, and shared commitment that make our community so special.

Our very own Serena Giron, principal of Lewis High School, and Matt Mough, principal of Twain Middle School, participated in the leadership panel at the Leadership Kickoff. They reminded us of the meaningful impact each person can make and how that impact grows when we are aligned. When we work in community, we can build momentum, and work toward our shared goals so our students can reach their highest potential.

I hope you will join me at the Hybla Valley Community Center Back to School Event on Saturday, August 15. Please stop by and say hello. I would love to see you there! Below, you will also find information about upcoming student immunization clinics, as well as Open House and Back to School Night dates for all Franconia District schools. FCPS Back to School Checklist

☑️ Is Your Child Registered?

If you are new to FCPS and have not registered your child for school, please do so as soon as possible. Schools are planning playdates, screenings, teacher visits, and open houses for students to get to know their teachers and each other. Register soon so you don’t miss out!

☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE

Access your child’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. You should have received an activation code when registering your child. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

Please Update Your Contact Information

Be sure you receive important information from your schools and FCPS. Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) by clicking “My Account” and reviewing the “Online Verification/Update.”On that form, you can also update immunization records, health information, and emergency contacts.

☑️ Update Immunizations Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy. Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on immunizations or to schedule an appointment to receive them.  Franconia:  Dedicated Back To School Immunization Clinics at the Franconia-Springfield Public Health Center (6564 Loisdale Court, 4th Floor Springfield, VA, 22150)  Saturday, August 15, 8 a.m. – noon Tuesday, August 18, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, August 21, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. ☑️ Learn About School Meals Families need to provide their children with money to purchase meals at school or send them with a packed lunch. Or, families may apply to receive free and reduced-price meal benefits, pending approval. ☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances: Days marked blue with an “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days. Days marked orange with an “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days. Days marked as TW, SD, and SP and in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff. Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al-Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
