EagleFest is a chance for students and families to:
- Walk the building with your schedule - see your classrooms and take some time to figure out how to navigate the building on day 1!
- Meet other KJMS families or catch up with old friends!
- Celebrate the end of Summer and the start of a great school year at KJMS!
Sessions
We have 4 sessions for families to choose from on Thursday, August 20th:
- Session 1 - 2:00 - 2:45pm
- Session 2 - 3:00 - 3:45pm
- Session 3 - 4:00 - 4:45pm

Due to limited parking, we are asking families to sign-up for one session. When you sign up for your timeslot, please know you can arrive anytime during your session. You should plan for your walk around the building to take 30 minutes. We will ask that you depart at the end of your scheduled timeslot to free up parking for the next group.
Eagle Fest Sign-Up
The Back to School Q & A is a time for families to ask questions about the start of school. School administrators will be available to answer questions. A Google Meet link will be sent the day of the event. All sessions start at 5:00pm with a Spanish translation starting at 6:00pm. Sessions will be recorded, click on the date to access the recording and slideshow for that session.
- Wednesday, August 12th
- Tuesday, August 18th
Recordings of previous sessions can be found on our webpage
We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!
We will have an opportunity for your family to grab ice cream (there will be dairy-free and nut-free options available), meet our administrative team, tour the building and get help with KJMS communication tools before the school year starts! This is an open house format where you can drop by for as little or as long as you would like. You do not have to arrive right as it begins as there will not be an agenda. If childcare is a concern, feel free to bring siblings along. Enter through Door 7 and a member of the KJMS staff will guide you on a tour.
- August 12th - 2:00-4:00 pm
If you have any questions about the Ice Cream Social, please contact Emily Gardiner via email at eegardiner@fcps.edu

On Tuesday, July 28, a new ParentVUE mobile app became available in the Apple and Google app stores. This new app will provide parents and caregivers with a more secure sign-in. The current “classic” app will remain active for about six months. Families must download the new app by December 2026 to ensure they have continued mobile access to their child’s school data.
- Once new app is downloaded, if you know your username and password, proceed to logging in
- If you do not remember your password, go to a browser (Chrome, Safari, etc)
- Go to sisparent.fcps.edu
- Click “Forgot Password”
- Put in username email address for ParentVUE
- It will send you an email with a verification code
- Submit the verification code
- It will then prompt you to set a new password
- Once it is set, you can go back to the app and log in
In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. While enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature.
Learn more about installing the new ParentVUE app. Parents needing assistance should submit a Parent Support Request.
As you prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to make it easy for you to understand what changes are on the horizon and what families need to know! We’ll continue to update the list as we approach the first day of school on Monday, August 24.

As summer winds down, our schools and staff are looking forward to welcoming students back to our classrooms. Let the following reminders help you get ready!
☑️ Is Your Child Registered?
If you are new to FCPS and have not registered your child for school, please do so as soon as possible. Schools are planning playdates, screenings, teacher visits, and open houses for students to get to know their teachers and each other. Register soon so you don’t miss out!
☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your child’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. You should have received an activation code when registering your child. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
☑️Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information from your schools and FCPS. Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) by clicking “My Account” and reviewing the “Online Verification/Update.”On that form, you can also update immunization records, health information, and emergency contacts.
☑️ Update Immunizations
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy. Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on immunizations or to schedule an appointment to receive them.
Keep reading for a list of immunization events below.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Families need to provide their children with money to purchase meals at school or send them with a packed lunch. Or, families may apply to receive free and reduced-price meal benefits, pending approval.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked blue with an “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked orange with an “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked as TW, SD, and SP and in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al-Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.
Save the Date: Back-to-School Nights
The back-to-school night schedule is available by region: Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, Region 4, Region 5, and Region 6. If you don’t know your school’s region, visit the school website, click on “About,” then click on “School Profile.”
☑️ Keep in Touch!
Check your email for FCPS This Week to read news and information from Fairfax County Public Schools. Watch for a new issue on Wednesdays during the school year.
Experience an easier way to view your child’s school menus using MealViewer:
- View what is being served each day.
- View the nutritional information for each meal.
- See if any specific allergens are being served.
- Get notified when your child’s favorite meal is being served.
Printable menus are always available on the Food and Nutrition Services webpage.
As part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening layered safety and security programs, FCPS will implement a new student ID system for students who ride our school buses.
The implementation of the student IDs is designed as an additional safety measure for our 130,000 FCPS students who ride the bus each day, ensuring they are on the right bus and that they get on and off at the correct bus stop, as well as making sure only authorized students are on our buses.
The IDs will be provided to students who ride the bus. Those students will be expected to tap on and tap off the bus. The student IDs do not track student movement. The only information available is when a student taps on or off a bus. Much like our Here Comes the Bus app, our new app will allow parents/guardians to track the progress of the school bus.
It is possible that the ID program will expand in the future to include uses such as library cards and meal payment. Learn more about the new transportation system and student ID cards.

New Universal Grade Matrices for Families
Families are encouraged to review the updated FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document, which explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses in order to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Updates for the 2026-27 school year include new Universal Grade Matrices (UGMs). UGMs are charts that show behavior expectations and school responses by grade level (K-3, 4-8, and 9-12). These at-a-glance resources (in Appendix D of the SR&R) are designed to make it easier for parents and caregivers to understand how schools respond to different types of behavior concerns.
Visit the SR&R webpage for more information and to review additional updates to the SR&R for the 2026-27 school year.
In case you missed it in FCPS This Week, the school division shared updates on the following topics:
