Student Meal Support

Apply Today for Free and Reduced-Price Meals!

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Studies show that students who eat both school breakfast and lunch tend to have healthier diets than those who don't participate in school meals. 

Families who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals can receive breakfast and lunch for their students at no cost or at a reduced cost. This includes more than one-third of FCPS students. Families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FRM) application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. 

The application for FRM is now available for the 2026-27 school year. Students who were approved for FRM last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should reapply as soon as possible so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

Access the application and view criteria and up-to-date information on the FRM webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.

De acuerdo al Centro para el Control de Enfermedades (en inglés), desayunar en la escuela ayuda a que los estudiantes asistan más a la escuela, pierdan menos días de clases y obtengan mejores calificaciones. Existen estudios que muestran que aquellos estudiantes que desayunan y almuerzan en la escuela, tienden a tener dietas más sanas que aquellos que no participan en las comidas escolares. 

Los estudiantes de las  familias que califiquen para recibir comidas escolares gratuitas o a precio reducido pueden desayunar y almorzar sin costo alguno. Esto representa m[as de un tercio de los estudiantes de FCPS. Las familias deben completar el Formulario de Solicitud de Comidas Gratuitas o a Precio Reducido (FRM, por sus siglas en inglés) antes del inicio de cada año escolar. Las solicitudes aprobadas podrían también calificar a esos estudiantes para recibir beneficios adicionales. 

La solicitud de los beneficios FRM está ahora disponible para el año escolar 2026-27. Aquellos estudiantes cuyas solicitudes de FRM fueron aprobadas el pasado año escolar, son elegibles por los primeros 30 días de este año escolar (o hasta el momento en que se procese la nueva solicitud). New ParentVUE App

New ParentVUE Mobile App Launching July 28

On Tuesday, July 28, a new ParentVUE mobile app will become available in the Apple and Google app stores. This new app provides parents and caregivers with a more secure sign-in. The current “classic” app will remain active for about six months. Families must download the new app by December 2026 to ensure they have continued mobile access to their child’s school data.

In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. While enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature.

La Nueva Aplicación Móvil ParentVUE será Lanzada el 28 de Julio

El martes 28 de julio estará disponible una nueva aplicación móvil de ParentVUE en las tiendas online de Apple y Google. Esta nueva aplicación proveerá a padres y tutores una forma más segura de entrar a la misma. La actual aplicación permanecerá activa por alrededor de seis meses más. Las familias deberán descargar la nueva aplicación antes de finalizar diciembre de 2026 para que continúen teniendo acceso en sus celulares a los datos escolares de su niño.

En la nueva aplicación, las familias pueden ahora inscribirse para usar el sistema de Verificación Múltiple (MFA, por sus siglas en inglés) para  Inicios Únicos de Sesión en FCPS. Aunque inscribirse para usar este sistema de seguridad es opcional, nosotros queremos recomendarles a todos que lo usen.

New Student ID Cards

New Student ID Cards Coming This Fall  This fall, every FCPS student will receive a student identification (ID) card as part of a divisionwide effort to modernize school transportation, improve communication with families, and strengthen student safety while traveling to and from school.  Every student who rides the school bus will need to tap on and tap off the bus every day using their new student ID card. Families can help by reinforcing this new habit with their child. All students at our school will need to wear their student ID cards throughout the school day. We will be handing out the new student ID cards the first few weeks of school. More details will be shared soon. Learn more about the new transportation system and student ID cards.

Summer Meals for Students

FCPS is providing no-cost meals on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on site while eating their meals.

This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne.

Summer sites will continue to be added, so please check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.

The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department is offering a variety of free family-friendly events throughout the summer! Opportunities include Town Square Tuesdays with live music and lawn games, Farmers Market Fun Days, Juneteenth celebrations, Play All Day VA activities, Fourth of July festivities, and more. Families can also explore 11 local parks and enjoy free admission to the Herndon Community Center during select events. These activities are a great way to stay active, connect with the community, and make lasting summer memories. Camp On The Go – Summer 2026 Free Drop-In Program for Kids! Explore. Play. Belong. June 23–August 7, 2026 2:00 PM–4:00 PM Locations & Days: Alabama Drive Park | Tuesdays and Thursdays Chandon Park | Wednesdays and Fridays Camp On The Go is a free drop-in program offered by Herndon Parks & Recreation. Children can enjoy games,crafts, activities, and special visits from community partners throughout the summer. Ages: Elementary-aged children 5-12 Rain Plan: Camp will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. No sign-up, no cost—just come to the park and have fun!

Looking for a great way to keep your child active and safe this summer? Herndon Parks & Recreation is offering the WaterWise Kids Summer Swim Program for students entering grades K–6. This program provides opportunities for children to build confidence in the water, develop swimming skills, and learn important water safety practices. Capital Area Food Bank is committed to providing food for our neighbors in need, throughout the year and in unexpected moments of economic hardship.

• To support federal employees and contractors affected by the government shutdown, the food bank is holding additional food distributions at locations throughout its partner network. These new food distributions will offer boxes of shelf-stable pantry items and fresh produce for the duration of the shutdown.

• These new food distributions will begin the week of October 20th. To receive food, visitors will need to show a government work ID.

Visit the local farmers market at St. John Neumann Catholic Church for fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread and prepared foods!
