Summer Updates from GBE

The first day of school is almost here! This week's newsletter is filled with important information to help your family prepare for a great start to the school year. You'll find details about teacher assignments, Open House, and Back-to-School Night. Be sure to review the important dates below. We hope to see you at our upcoming back-to-school events as we reconnect and celebrate the start of another great year together!

Kindergarten Popsicles on the Playground - Tuesday, August 11

Is your child starting kindergarten at Greenbriar East this school year? Join the PTA and GBE administration for Kindergarten Popsicles on the Playground on Tuesday, August 11, from 4–5 p.m. at the Greenbriar East Elementary School playground.

Meet future classmates, explore the playground, enjoy a popsicle, and help your child get excited for the first day of school. We look forward to welcoming our newest Roadrunners and their families!

Summer Block Party & Magic School Bus - Thursday, August 13

Join us on Thursday, August 13, for two fun opportunities to kick off the new school year!

From 4:00–4:20 p.m., the Chantilly Pyramid Magic School Bus will stop at the Greenbriar Pool parking lot. Be sure to visit the Greenbriar East table to pick up free school supplies and meet our school administrators.

Then, at 4:30 p.m., head over to the Greenbriar East playground for our Summer Block Party! Reconnect with friends, meet new families, and spend time with our amazing PTA as we celebrate the start of another school year. Enjoy music from a DJ, food and drinks, and wrap up the evening with a community kickball game.

Building Tour for New Students - Friday, August 14

New to Greenbriar East? Join us on Friday, August 14, from 9–10 a.m. for a self-guided building tour and learn more about our school before the first day.

Families will have the opportunity to explore the building, learn about arrival and dismissal procedures, school communication, and other important information to help prepare for a successful school year. Our team will be available to answer your questions.

Please note:

  • Students should not bring school supplies to this event.
  • Students will not meet their teacher or visit classrooms during the tour. Classroom visits and teacher introductions will take place during Open House.

Check ParentVUE for Teacher Assignments - Thursday, August 20 

Be sure you have access to ParentVUE! Families can log in to ParentVUE beginning Thursday, August 20, to view their child's homeroom teacher assignment.

A new ParentVUE mobile app is now available in the Apple and Google app stores. This new app provides parents and caregivers with a more secure sign-in. The current “classic” app will remain active for about six months. Families must download the new app by December 2026 to ensure they have continued mobile access to their child’s school data.

In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. While enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature.

Open House - Friday, August 21

Families explore a classroom, complete activities, and talk with staff during Greenbriar East’s Open House.

 

Join us for Open House on Friday, August 21, and meet your child's teacher before the first day of school! Families are welcome to bring school supplies and leave them in the classroom during their visit.

  • Kindergarten–Grade 2: 9–9:45 a.m.
  • Grades 3–6: 10–10:45 a.m.

Back-to-School Night - Tuesday, September 1

Mark your calendar for Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, September 1! We will welcome families from all grade levels for one evening event.

A detailed schedule with grade-level presentation times and rotations will be shared next week. 

School Supplies

It's time to start gathering school supplies for the new school year! Grade-level supply lists are available on the Greenbriar East School Supply Lists webpage. We encourage families to purchase supplies before the first day of school so students are ready to learn from day one.

New Student ID Cards Coming This Fall

This fall, every FCPS student will receive a student identification (ID) card as part of a divisionwide effort to modernize school transportation, improve communication with families, and strengthen student safety while traveling to and from school. 

Every student who rides the school bus will need to tap on and tap off the bus every day using their new student ID card. Families can help by reinforcing this new habit with their child.

All students at our school will need to wear their student ID cards throughout the school day. We will be handing out the new student ID cards the first few weeks of school. More details will be shared soon.
