Herndon High School is pleased to welcome Dr. Robert Lewis as a new Assistant Principal. Dr. Lewis brings more than two decades of educational leadership experience in public, private, charter, and international schools, with a proven record of fostering academic excellence, supporting student success, and building strong school communities.
As a bilingual Leader, Dr. Lewis spent five years as Middle School Principal at The American School Foundation in Mexico City, where he led the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP), implemented data-driven instructional improvements, and helped students achieve exceptional academic growth. Under his leadership, students consistently performed at or above the 91st percentile in language usage, reading, and mathematics, reflecting his commitment to continuous improvement and high expectations for all learners
Most recently, Dr. Lewis served as an Assistant Principal and as a Dean of Students in Alexandria City Public high School. In this role he lead special education, facilitated Student Support Team (SST) meetings, ensured full compliance with special education regulations and IDEA requirements, and coordinated the high school's New Teacher Mentor Program. He partnered with community organizations to expand student access to social services, academic tutoring, and career opportunities, contributing to a significant reduction in student suspensions. Dr. Lewis has supervised a multitude of instructional departments to include social studies, ESOL, World language and special education. He has coached teachers in mathematics and science, and supported multilingual learners through rigorous, student centered instruction.
Dr. Lewis has served in a variety of leadership roles across the United States and internationally. As Campus Executive Director for Gestalt Community Schools in Memphis, Tennessee, he led a K–8 charter school, strengthened instructional practices, and significantly reduced chronic absenteeism while fostering a positive school culture. At Lausanne Collegiate School, he successfully guided the middle school through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, maintained high levels of student engagement, and led a successful accreditation process.
Dr. Lewis holds a Doctor of Education in School Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the Keller Graduate School, and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Lewis is dedicated to building strong relationships with students, families, and staff while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive. His passion for instructional excellence, student support, and collaborative leadership makes him an outstanding addition to the Herndon High School community!
