Greetings Frost MS Families,

As we approach the start of another exciting school year at Robert Frost Middle School, I hope this message finds you well and full of enthusiasm. We are thrilled to welcome your child to our school community and look forward to the year ahead—a year dedicated to building a bright future, piece by piece.

This school year, our unifying theme is "Piece by Piece, We Learn and Achieve." Just like assembling a complex Lego masterpiece, true success comes from laying strong foundations, connecting individual skills, and supporting one another block by block.

The transition to middle school is a significant step in your child’s educational journey, marking the beginning of new experiences and constructive challenges. We understand that this period can bring a mix of emotions for both students and families. Please know that our dedicated team has been hard at work to ensure every piece is in place for a safe, engaging, and enjoyable school year. We are here to provide support and guidance every step of the way as your child discovers how their unique talents fit into our broader school picture.

As we prepare for the first days of school, here are a few key reminders to help ensure a smooth start to our build together.

Back to School Night

Join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 1 from 6:30 - 8:00pm!  We will be sending out more information about this important event as we get closer to the date.

Update on Student Use of Personal Electronic Communication and Computing Devices

On July 16, 2026, the Fairfax County School Board passed Main Motion #6 regarding student use of personal electronic communication and computing devices during the instructional day.

Under the new requirement, students may not use personal electronic communication or computing devices, including personal laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones, and similar devices, during the instructional day. Students must use FCPS-issued devices for school-related digital activities.

The requirement includes the following exceptions:

1. Students may use a non-FCPS-issued personal device when the use of that device is explicitly required or permitted as a necessary accommodation in the student’s Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Plan.
2. A principal or the principal’s designee may approve a limited, course-specific exception for a student enrolled in a specialized class when the curriculum requires a technology tool or software application that is not available on a standard FCPS-issued device.

New Student ID Cards Coming for Bus Riders This Fall 

As part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening layered safety and security programs, FCPS will implement a new student ID system for students who ride our school buses.

The implementation of the student IDs is designed as an additional safety measure for our 130,000 students who ride the bus each day, ensuring they are on the right bus and that they get on and off at the correct bus stop, as well as making sure only authorized students are on our buses.

The IDs will be provided to students who ride the bus. Those students will be expected to tap on and tap off the bus. The student IDs do not track student movement. The only information available is when a student taps on or off a bus. Much like our Here Comes the Bus app, our new app will allow parents/guardians to track the progress of the school bus.

It is possible that the ID program will expand in the future to include uses such as library cards and meal payment. Learn more about the new transportation system and student ID cards.

Supply List

While individual teachers may request specific supplies, you can find a general list of common items here. Hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and tissues are always greatly appreciated!

Locker Requests

Students will not automatically be provided a locker, due to limited availability.  If you would like to request a locker for your student, please fill out the form.  Students will only be able to use them in the morning before first period, around lunch, and at the end of the day.  Lockers will not be distributed until the third week of school. Families can continue to request lockers throughout the year at the start of each quarter.

Experience an easier way to view your child’s school menus using MealViewer:

• View what is being served each day.
• View the nutritional information for each meal.
• See if any specific allergens are being served.
• Get notified when your child’s favorite meal is being served.

Free and Reduced - Price Meals (FRM)

As of October 31, 2025 approximately 36 percent of students in FCPS qualify for free and reduced-price meals. The prices for paid breakfast and lunch are determined by the School Board and the price of reduced-price meals are established by the federal government.

Families who earn less than 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals and those with incomes between 130 and 185 percent of poverty level qualify for reduced-price meals.

PTA Corner

After School Program

Frost Middle School offers free after-school activities every Monday through Friday from 2:30 – 4:30 PM all school year long.

Whether your student wants to join sports, get help with homework, create, and compete in STEM clubs, play video games, or attend special events—there is something for everyone!  The full After School Program will begin on September 28^th.  Cross Country practice begins September 14^th.

Key Highlights:

• Free Programs: Running Monday–Friday until 4:30 PM.
• Bus Transportation: Available 4 days a week (Monday – Thursday) and parent pick up on Fridays.  Buses leave Frost between 4:45 - 5:00pm to take students home.
• Full Schedule & Details: Specific After School Program information for the 26-27 school year will be updated on our School Website https://frostms.fcps.edu/activities during the first couple weeks of school. 

26-27 Cross Country, Volleyball & Track competitive teams

This year Frost will have Cross Country in the Fall, Volleyball in the Winter & Track in the spring.  All students that want to Join Cross Country & Track will be on the team and will run in the Saturday competitions.  We will have tryouts for Volleyball in December for one girls’ team and one boys’ team.  Each team will have 12 players.  At this time, we do not have the competition schedule.

• Students participating in our Sports program must get a physical
• Parents & Doctor must complete the Physical form.  Once completed your student can turn it into the main office
• Parents must complete a Google Form to complete registration – The link has not been release yet – this will be sent out later in August an it will be posted in Schoology.
• Students must be registered to participate in the Frost After-School Program (link below)
• Cross Country practice begins September 14^th on Monday, Wednesday & Friday (buses available on Monday & Wednesday) parent pick up on Friday

Child Care and Early Learning Programs

The Virginia Department of Education has created a statewide online tool that helps Virginia families search for and compare child care and early learning programs, including information on program options, quality, and availability.

Virginia Energy Assistance Program (DSS)

Eligible households may receive help with heating, cooling, or energy emergencies through Fuel, Crisis, and Cooling Assistance programs. Support can include help paying utility bills, heating fuel, deposits, or repairing/replacing heating or cooling equipment. Applications are accepted online via CommonHelp, by phone, or through local DSS offices during program-specific application periods. Benefits are based on availability of funds.

ECHO (Ecumenical Community Helping Others)

ECHO provides clothing, food, grade-appropriate school supplies packaged in backpacks, household items, computers and financial assistance to families that live in Burke and the greater Springfield area. Including all addresses in the following zip codes: 22151, 22152, 22153 and 22015, and some addresses in 22150 and 22312.

Get to Know FCPS and Resources Available to Families

Being connected to your school community helps you stay informed and support your child’s success. Take some time to get familiar with the many resources and tools available to FCPS families, including:

• School Age Child Care (SACC) — This Fairfax County Government program provides a safe and fun environment before and after school for elementary school-age children.
• FCPS Communications for Families — FCPS shares news and information to support student learning and promote family involvement.
• Family Liaisons — Family liaisons serve as a link between families and schools. Find out how family liaisons can support you and your family.

Resources for Families of Students with Disabilities

SEPTA, the Fairfax County Special Education Parent Teacher Association, was created to empower and connect families, students, and educators to ensure students with disabilities develop their full potential as individuals and community members. Learn more or become a member on the SEPTA website. 

The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board’s Developmental Disability (DD) Waiver Program provides a range of services that individuals need throughout their lives. Visit the website to learn more and speak to an intake cooridinator.

The Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) is a state mandated Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). Parents/guardians, students, teachers, administrators, staff, and others interested in special education at FCPS are welcome and encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas, and/or public comment related to the unmet needs of students with disabilities.

FCPS’ Office of Special Education Procedural Support provides guidance to staff, families, and students in areas related to the implementation of and compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, as amended.

The PRC offers free webinars, consultations, a lending library, and resources to help adults support the success of all students, including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities. Their YouTube channel includes videos of workshops and webinars for families and educators to support student success. The assistant ombuds for special education, provides information and support to parents/caregivers and students regarding special education and Section 504 services. Staff in the Office of the Ombuds believe that by being transparent and connecting families with available supports and services, children with special needs can equitably access public education.
