 Stop by to enjoy the beauty of our campus. The erosion garden planted by our students is in bloom. The painted brick liners add the perfect pop of color. You can sit in the shade on the bench we "earned" with all the plastic we recycled throughout the year. You might even see a fox!

A Message from Ms. Consolla
Greetings from Fort Hunt! Our campus is quiet, but it's still buzzing with activity. We hosted a Responsive Classroom three-day course at the end of June. Several of our staff members attended and left so excited to return in August with new ways to build a caring learning community in their classrooms.
All of the chalkboards installed in the early 1970s have been removed from classrooms, and we're awaiting the installation of brand new whiteboards. (Did you know that salmon-pink was a popular wall color for schools in the 1970s? 😊) In the meantime, our amazing custodial team has been doing the deep cleaning we look forward to each summer. There is something magical about the shiny, just waxed floors throughout the school awaiting the pitter patter of students.
Last week, Dr. Tiffani Triplett, our new assistant principal, officially joined us in the Fox Den. I couldn't be more excited for our community. Dr. Triplett brings over 20 years of experience both nationally and internationally--serving in South Carolina, Georgia, California and Kuwait. She is especially knowledgeable in the area of advanced academics having been a resource teacher at Waynewood ES and Hollin Meadows ES. She has most recently served as the assistant principal at Riverside ES. I can't wait for you to meet her.

Getting Ready for the New School Year
📝What are the forms I need to complete to begin the new school year?

🍎When will I learn about my child's teacher assignment for next year?
Parent/guardians will receive an email on Thursday, August 20th with their child's teacher assignments.
🎒Can my kindergarten child visit their classroom before the first day of school?
Yes! If your child will be in kindergarten, please join us on Thursday, August 20th at 3:15-4pm. We'll start in the cafeteria to learn important information. Then you and your child can take a peek into the classroom.
📚What about students in Grades 1-6? When can they visit the classroom?
ALL students in grades K-6 can stop by to visit their classrooms and drop off their school supplies on Friday, August 21 from 9:00-9:55am.
✏️Where can I get information about school supplies for next year?
School supplies for all grade levels can be found here. If you ordered supplies through our PTA-sponsored sale with Sprouts, those items will be available by the Open House.
🚌When is the first day of school?
Monday, August 24. Doors will open at 8:30am. It is a full day of school. Dismissal is at 3:40pm.
🏫When is Back to School Night?
Wednesday, September 2 6:00-8:00pm.

Will there be Early Release Wednesdays next year? If so, when will they be?
Yes, we will have Early Release Wednesdays next year where we will dismiss at 12:40pm. These days provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

🍉Summer Meals are Available!
School is out, summer meals are in! Fairfax County Public Schools is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided, on a first come, first serve basis, at the sites and times listed below. Children must remain onsite while consuming their meals.

Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation and Neither Does Fun!The FCPS Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August. Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!

We are PET-Free on Our Campus
As a reminder, all FCPS campuses, including Fort Hunt, do not allow pets at any time or day of the week. This includes drop-off and afterschool pick-up. It's fine to wait up on the sidewalk on Linton Lane with your pet. This rule is in place to ensure all students feel safe and to keep our grounds clean. Thank you!

What's For Lunch?
You can find the monthly menu here by scrolling down to Elementary menus for breakfast and lunch. You can apply for free/reduced meals here. Families can add money to their child's account at My School Bucks.
Families may join their child for lunch at Fort Hunt on Family Fridays beginning in November. You can read about the expectations and procedures for Family Fridays in our handbook.

Get Involved with your PTA
Consider becoming a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Fort Hunt. It's a great way to connect with other parents, learn about how to support your child and to have fun at their amazing community events! There are many ways where you can share your voice, talents and time. Everyone working together makes this a great community. Check out the PTA website for more information.

Do you have questions about attendance or food/drink at school or what students can wear? If so, please check out our Parent/Guardian Handbook on our Fort Hunt website. It's available with translations. Click here to access it. Of course, if you have a question about a situation that is not listed, reach out to your child's teacher or an administrator.
