Dear Cardinal Families,
I hope you and your family are enjoying a wonderful summer! With the start of the new school year just around the corner, our staff at Cunningham Park Elementary has been busy preparing for an exciting and successful 2026–2027 school year. We can't wait to welcome back our returning Cardinals and extend a warm welcome to the many new students and families joining our school community.
As you continue to enjoy these final weeks of summer, we wanted to share a few important dates and reminders to help your family prepare for the upcoming school year. Please take a moment to review the information below and mark your calendars.

Open House: Friday, August 21, from 9:00–10:00 AM Come meet your teacher and reconnect with our school community and staff. If you preordered PTA school supplies, they will be in your child's classroom. School supply lists can be found on our website.

First Day of School: Monday, August 24 Doors open for breakfast at 8:20 AM, and all students may enter beginning at 8:30 AM.

Back-to-School Night: Tuesday, September 1, from 5:30–7:00 PM

Early Release Wednesdays:
- September 30
- November 18
- January 13
- April 7
We are counting down the days until our Cardinals return to the nest! We look forward to seeing everyone soon.

🛝Rising Kindergarten Playdates
Come play and meet new friends! Our PTA has scheduled two playdates for rising kindergarteners this summer. Meet at the playground and have fun!
- July 18th at 10:00 AM
- August 15th at 10:00 AM
☀️Summer Resources Help Students Stay Curious, Healthy, and Busy
FCPS’ Summer Resource Guide has activities and tips on a variety of subjects and interests, from camps and activities to health and safety resources.
Be sure to check back over the summer, as more resources may be added.
Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation and Neither Does Fun! The FCPS Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August. Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!
🍴Summer Meals for Students
No-cost meals will be provided to students on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on site while eating their meals.
This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne.
Summer sites will continue to be added, so please check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.
