Dear Sully District Families and Community Members,
I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer and finding time to relax and spend time with family and friends.
Although school is out, the work continues. Throughout the summer, I will continue meeting with FCPS staff, school leaders, and community members to prepare for the upcoming school year and to advance priorities that are important to our students and families.
As we reflect on the past year, I also want to thank everyone who took the time to participate in the Skyview High School boundary process. Over the past 12 months, thousands of parents, students, and community members attended meetings, submitted feedback, and shared their perspectives. Your engagement helped shape the final plan and ensured our community's voice was heard throughout the process.
At its July 16 Regular Meeting, the School Board voted to approve the Skyview High School boundary, phasing plan, and transportation plan. Thank you to everyone who participated throughout this process and advocated for our students and schools.
Below, you'll find a summary of the approved plans, including key information on boundaries, phasing, transportation, and other important implementation details.

Phasing
 Skyview High School Phasing: What Families Need to Know
Skyview High School will open in phases over three school years to allow students, staff, and programs to grow together. During the first year (2026–27), enrollment is opt-in only for 9th and 10th graders.
In the second year (2027–28), the new attendance boundary takes effect, and incoming 9th-grade students who live within the boundary will attend Skyview, with an opportunity to opt out if the school's configuration does not meet their educational needs. (An opt-in for out of boundary students may be available)
By the third year (2028–29), Skyview will serve all four grade levels (9–12), and the full attendance boundary will be in effect for incoming 9th graders. This phased approach is intended to provide a smooth transition as the school grows
Students who qualify for grandfathering may remain at their current high school through graduation. Families may also continue to request sibling transfers in accordance with FCPS Regulation 2230 (Student Transfers).

Transportation: How Bus Service Will Work
The Superintendent's recommendation includes two transportation models based on where students live. Students who live within the Skyview attendance boundary will receive transportation through the traditional neighborhood bus stop model.
Students who live outside the Skyview boundary but choose to attend Skyview from one of the five original feeder high schools (Centreville, Chantilly, Oakton, South Lakes, and Westfield) will use designated depot bus stops.
In addition, students who remain at their current high school because of boundary changes will continue to receive transportation consistent with FCPS Policy 8130

VHSL Athletics & Activities: What to Expect
Skyview's athletic programs will also be introduced in phases as the school expands. During the first year, Skyview will not be a VHSL member school, and students may continue participating in VHSL athletics and activities at their current (base) high school.
In the second year, Skyview becomes a VHSL member school, although some athletic programs may be limited while facilities and participation continue to grow. By the third year, Skyview is expected to offer a full slate of VHSL programs.
Reassignment to Westfield HS and Stone MS-
Students Reassigned to Westfield High School
SY 2026–27- No changes. Students continue attending their current schools.
The new boundary has not taken effect.
SY 2027–28
New 9th graders who live in the new Westfield boundary begin attending Westfield High School.
Current 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students may remain at Centreville HS or Chantilly HS through graduation (grandfathered).
Students entering 7th grade who live in the new Stone Middle School boundary begin attending Stone Middle School.
Current 8th graders may remain at their current middle school through completion of middle school.
Sibling Transfers: Existing sibling transfer provisions will continue to be available in accordance with FCPS Regulation 2230 (Student Transfers). Families may request that siblings attend the same school, subject to the requirements of the regulation, including school and grade-level capacity.
Specialized programming for Westfield HS
The board has directed the superintendent to come up with a comprehensive analysis for specialized programming pathways at Westfield High School, including potential programs in Business, Information Technology, and Skilled Trades, along with implementation timelines and partnership opportunities. I am thankful to my colleagues for supporting my motion, I am looking forward to meeting and working with various stakeholders at Westfield including admin, staff, students, PTSA and parents on this important development.
