As we begin a new school year I wanted to send some quick reminders about our Kiss and Ride procedures to ensure all our staff and families safety:
1) As you enter Bull Run's property and make a right to enter the Kiss and Ride line, follow the traffic until you see the "STOP HERE" sign (located in line with Door 6) and wait for staff directives.
2) Once cleared, please drive your vehicle as far up to the front of the unloading zone line as possible before having your child exit the vehicle from the curb side of the vehicles only
3) Drivers should remain in their vehicles at all times. Please park your car in the lot if you need to exit for whatever reason
4) Do not pass other cars in the line. We understand that many times you have places to get to afterwards, but please have patience and we will move the line as quick as possible.
5) Finally, while we understand the desire to exit cars and walk students to the front door of the school, we kindly request that families utilize the Kiss and Ride protocols as established. We will make exceptions for the first day of school for our younger students, but families should allow their children to get used to typical entry procedures.
We have student patrols and plenty of staff that are efficient in getting all of the students into the building and to their classrooms safely.
Other reminders:
* 9:00am: Arrival starts and entry permitted for students getting breakfast only
- These students getting breakfast enter building (Door 6) and report to cafeteria.
- Kiss and Ride students may exit their vehicles but must remain outside of Door 1 until 9:05am if they are not getting breakfast.
- Students getting breakfast from the bus will also be released at this time, otherwise they will wait on the bus until 9:05am.
* 9:05am: Doors Open for all students to report to class
- Kiss and Ride and Bus Riders should go straight to class, entering from Door 1. Students are still welcome to purchase breakfast.
* 9:15am: Start of Day Bell
- School day officially begins - students arriving after this time will need to report to office for late pass.
Additionally, please be mindful when entering Bull Run ES during arrival and dismissal.
To ensure all our families safety:
* I respectfully request and highly encourage drivers (if traveling toward the battlefield on Route 29), to continue past Bull Run ES and complete a U-turn at the next available left-turn. All cars should enter Bull Run ES by turning right at the light (Pleasant Valley and Route 29) while traveling towards Centreville on Route 29.
The reason for this request to not turn left into the school at the Pleasant Valley/Route 29 intersection, is to prevent unnecessary blocking of the turn lanes for the buses trying to bring our students to school on time and safely. This is also a way to prevent unsafe driving conditions, as numerous cars try to merge into the turn lanes rather than continuing straight to the next U-turn.
* To keep traffic patterns flowing smoothly when driving into the school for Kiss & Ride, cars should stay in the right lane as the left lane is reserved for buses entering Bull Run ES (see attached pattern map). Kiss and Ride Map
* When exiting Bull Run, please make a right turn only, to avoid a traffic jam coming out of our school and causing build up on Route 29 during high traffic times of the day.
These procedures will ensure our families are entering and exiting Bull Run safely.
*Remember that we encourage all Bull Run students to use FCPS transportation (our beautiful yellow Buses) if there any specific family issues that cause a pattern of late arrivals or any driving concerns*
Thank you for your understanding and adherence to these procedures. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Recognizing BRES staff who go above and beyond
The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for families, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Bull Run Elementary. We love our staff members; let's tell them how we feel!
