FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs –Apply Now

The FCPS PreK programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children ages 4 and 3 years old by September 30 who live in Fairfax County.  Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; students who are 4 years old and those with multiple risk factors are prioritized.

Applications are accepted online, by email, or by mail or in person at our office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.

FCPS’ Summer Resource Guide has activities and tips on a variety of subjects and interests, from camps and activities to health and safety resources. 

Be sure to check back over the summer, as more resources may be added. 

Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation and Neither Does Fun!The FCPS Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious throughout the summer. It’s the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!

El verano es el momento perfecto para que ayude a su estudiante a explorar nuevos intereses, reforzar conceptos aprendidos y mantenerse interesado en aprender.


News from George Mason Regional Library!

Greetings, Neighbors!

 

The Summer Reading Adventure is in full swing at George Mason Regional Library. We can help you plan some travel adventures with guidebooks on the shelf or ebooks and emagazines in Libby. For adventures closer to home, check out a Nature Backpack from our Library of Things. If you’d like an adventure through history, pick up a Fairfax250 Bingo card or participate in one of Fairfax County Public Library’s America250 programs.

Accessibility Matters at the Library

We have a new accommodation request form for visitors to use (you’re still welcome to call if you prefer) and we’ve installed JAWS and ZoomText accessibility tools for visually-impaired users on all of our public computers. There are even more ways to enjoy library services through our Access Services branch.

The World We Write Short Story Contest (grade 3 – Adult)

FCPL and the Fairfax Library Foundation invite school-age youth (grades 3-6), teens (grades 7-12) and adults (ages 18+) to participate in our fourth annual writing contest. Use one of the prompts to write a 250-word story. Stories should be submitted online starting July 1. Winners will be notified in late August.

Free Children’s Events at George Mason Regional Library — July 2026

George Mason Regional Library is offering free children’s events throughout July for families with young children through tweens. Programs include storytimes, bilingual Spanish storytime, baby and toddler activities, family storytime, LEGO building, and a special visit with Awesome Animal Ambassadors. All events are free, and most are open to all ages unless noted.

July events include:

Preschool Storytime: Wednesdays, July 1, 15, 22, and 29 at 10:30 a.m. Ages 3–5.

Happy 250th Birthday USA: Wednesday, July 1 at 3:00 p.m. Ages 6–11.

Bouncin’ Babies Storytime: Thursdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 at 10:30 a.m. Ages birth–18 months.

Toddler Storytime: Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 10:30 a.m. Ages 18 months–3 years.

Spanish Bilingual Storytime: Friday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. Ages 3–5.

Saturday Storytime: Saturdays, July 11 and 18 at 10:30 a.m. All ages.

Family Storytime: Sunday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. All ages.

LEGO Fun Time: Wednesday, July 22 from 2:00–3:00 p.m. Ages 6–11.

Awesome Animal Ambassadors: Friday, July 24 at 11:00 a.m. All ages.

Registration is not required unless noted by the library.
