Dranesville's Summer Reading Program

We are officially three weeks into summer, Dranesville families! We hope you are staying cool and enjoying the break. Today, we’re checking in on our Dranesville Summer Reading Challenge for all rising Kindergarten through Sixth-grade students.
Whether you’ve already finished your book or are just turning the first page, there is still plenty of time to join the fun! As a quick refresher, here is how you can participate:

💡 Connect: Check in with your child about their reading progress or look over the book choices together to spark a new conversation.

📝 Select: If you haven’t yet, please submit the online formto let us know which book your family is diving into.

⏰ Complete: Keep turning those pages! Please finish your reading by our Open House on Friday, August 21st.

Summer Resources Help Students Stay Curious, Healthy, and Busy
FCPS’ Summer Resource Guide has activities and tips on a variety of subjects and interests, from camps and activities to health and safety resources.

Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation and Neither Does Fun!The FCPS Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August. Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!
Summer Meals Now Available
School is out, summer meals are in! Breakfast and lunch will be available to all children 18 years of age and younger. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided, on a first come, first serve basis. Children must remain onsite while consuming their meals.

Families Can Eat Together
This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at six sites including Hutchison ES.
Back-to-School Pediatric Health Fairs – Free School Physicals & Immunizations
Families with children ages 5 and older are invited to attend the upcoming pediatric health fairs hosted by Inova Cares. Free school physicals and immunizations for the SY26–27 will be provided for children who are uninsured or enrolled in Medicaid.
Appointments are required and walk-ins cannot be accommodated. Families should bring their child's vaccination records to the appointment.

HealthWorks Free School Physicals
HealthWorks for Northern Virginia will be offering free school physicals for Fairfax and Loudoun County children ages 3–18 who do not have health insurance and are entering a Virginia school. These comprehensive appointments include a physical exam, dental screening, hearing and vision tests, TB screening, and immunizations. Please note that sports physicals are not available through this program. Families can register or sign up to be notified when registration opens on July 10.
