Cubbie News

Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,

As we officially close out another incredible school year, we want to take a moment to look back on our journey together. This year has been defined by remarkable growth, shared triumphs, and a deep sense of community. We are profoundly grateful to our students, staff, and families for your dedication, passion, and partnership in making this year truly unforgettable.

Our Cubbies have poured their hearts into their learning this year. We have witnessed impressive progress across all academic areas. From measurable growth on key assessments—including WIDA, SOLs, MAP, and VALLSS—to the countless victories achieved daily in our classrooms, our students have persevered through challenges and reached new heights. We could not be prouder of their hard work, resilience, and accomplishments.

Beyond academic success, our school has thrived because of the support of our community. Together, we have lived our C.A.R.E.S. values each day and it was an exciting year implementing our Cubbie Den system. These expectations have guided our actions, deepened our relationships, and sustained a positive, welcoming environment where every child feels empowered to learn and grow.

As we celebrate our collective achievements, we also want to honor those who are preparing for their next great chapters:

  • To our rising middle schoolers: Congratulations! We are incredibly excited for the adventures that await you. Go forward with confidence, knowing you have the tools to achieve amazing things.
  • To the families moving on to new communities or schools: Thank you for weaving your story into ours. You will always be a cherished part of our school family, and we wish you happiness and success in your next chapter.

To our students, dedicated staff, and supportive families: thank you for a remarkable year. We hope this summer brings you the opportunity to relax, recharge, explore new passions, and make lasting memories with your loved ones.

Have a happy, healthy, and safe summer vacation! We already look forward to welcoming our returning families back in the fall for another year of growth, opportunity, and achievement.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we belong!

Warmest Regards,

Melissa Miller, Principal

Nausheen Haider, Assistant Principal

Summer Office Hours

Beginning on Monday, June 22, 2026, the Cub Run office will be open during the summer from 9:00am to 1:00pm, Monday through Friday. Please call the school office at 703-633-7500 if you have any questions or need to register or unenroll a student for the 2026-27 school year. To schedule an appointment, please email Brittney Kalbaugh at bmkalbaugh@fcps.edu.

Kiss & Ride Vehicle Tag

If you have a child attending Cub Run next year who was in Kiss & Ride this year, please keep your tag in a safe place for the summer. Your family will continue to have the same number and this will avoid re-printing the tags in the fall.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.

Summer Literacy Resources

Cubbies, as we head into the summer, we want to share some amazing reading opportunities!

Students can join the Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Adventure! You can earn badges as you read books and complete various activities. Once you finish the program, you can receive prizes!

Students can also fill out a Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Journal to earn a free book!

And Pizza Hut has brought back their Book It! program! Earn a personal pan pizza as you read your way through the summer.

We would love to hear about your reading adventures this fall when you return to Cub Run! Happy reading, Cubbies!

Your feedback matters. Please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.

Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.

Support Your Child's Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available online and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View additional details about ParentVUE.

Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected

On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”

The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact Nadia Ruffner, at nruffner@fcps.edu or call 703-503-3500 to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.

All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.

For assistance activating your account, please contact our front office. For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.
